OT: Detroit Tigers trade deadline ideas/discussion
The Detroit Tigers have a few holes on their team that are preventing them from winning a world championship. What do you think Dambroski and Illitch should do at the deadline? Should they go after a shortstop like Rollins or Hanley Ramirez who could provide veteran leadership in the postseason and a nice boost in hitting or should they go after a lock down reliever who can provide depth and strengthen the bullpen?
again then, Fister's FIP and ERA are both lower than Smyly's and Fister has walked two hitters in over 36 innings. Only problem in his line is a fluke rise in HRs. That trade was ass.
Getting rid of Doug Fister and not getting fair value in return was a mistake.
Robbie Ray was absolutley a top 10 player in the Nats organization, shit he's a top 100 prospect right now according to MLB.com, let's at least get the facts right if we're going to continue bitching.
Fister was a great trade. Ray's a good prospect and Krol is helping out in the bullpen.
Any Tiger's trade discussions should start with Austin Jackson. He has peaked as a player (mediocrity), yet he still has some perceived value around the league. Look for him to be possibly dealt for a bat in the infield or some bullpen help.
The dude has a 169 wRC+ this year.
I'm fine with saying that he doesn't have any room to improve upon what he's done, because at this level, he is an elite, top 5 hitter, and there's not much room to improve at that level.
Brian Hunter (whichever one you're talking about) was a below league average hitter.
You are either severly overrating Brian Hunter (by assuming he was an all-star caliber hitter) or are severly underrating Stanton, who has been a top 10 hitter in all of baseball since 2011.
When the Tigers brought up Suarez to replace Worth on the roster, Worth was "designated for assignment". What's his status now?
IMO, he's had plenty of chances as a SS but clearly can't hit. Why not turn him into a pitching project and see if that knuckler he throws is MLB quality?
here, but they should just sell off their bloated contracts to stock the farm system so they're not atrocious in three years. Can you imagine the prospect return from trading VMart, Scherzer, Verlander, Kinsler, Sanchez and even Hunter?
That's the area of need that has to be addressed soon. Coke is nothing more than batting practice fodder for opposing teams, Alburquerque has been a "promising" pitcher forever that can't seem to find any consistancy from one appearance to the next and walks way too many. Nathan shows all the signs of being past his prime, enough red flags were being raised already last season for a pitcher his age.
What is the timetable for Hanrahan reaching Detroit? Do the Tigers have time to wait it out for him, and how effective will he actually be when he gets there? Even if he is a lights-out closer again at some point, though, the Tiger bullpen still has plenty of other issues. Dombrowski has some work to do between now and the trade deadline, and the priority is definitely the bullpen.
New Mexico only has a BB/9 of 3 so far this season. He's a quality RP, but for some reason people seem to discredit him. When he is healthy, he is an effective RP. The highest xFIP he's ever had in a season is 3.48.
The only problem with the bullpen is Coke and Nathan.
Coke won't be around much longer, so he's not a problem.
If Nathan can turn it around to be just a solid RP, the Tigers would have a top 10 bullpen.
off-topic for a moment and point all the ball fans here in the direction of MGoBrewMom's thread?

Sierra Romero has moved to 2nd now in the poll, and with some help from baseball and softball fans might move up. The poll goes until June 15th, so there's plenty of time for Romo to catch and pass the current vote leader.
(hint: I voted twice, once on my PC and once on my phone.)
the chicago way... rob f, you scoundrel.
A's fan here. Do whatever they are currently doing... then when you get to the point that they stop caring and sell all their players, use your money to actually win something...
Or better idea, we can continue to win game 5's in Oakland to eliminate you?
that's exactly what im saying.
Especially when you switch players around to make it look worse. Fister was moved to make room in the rotation for Smyly.
Let's see, a shortstop who can hit, a strong third starter, and a solid closer. Wait, we just let all three of those get away.
Smyly pitched OK yesterday, but has been pretty poor as a starter. Hopefully he can adjust to this role because he is lights out as a mid reliever.
for shortstop and/or bullpen help.
