OT: Detroit Tigers Dressed For Success

Submitted by Everyone Murders on

Before I saw THIS, I did not even know that zubaz were a thing.  They are a thing, and that thing is incredible.  This is how the Tigers decked out for their trip to Cleveland for tonight's game when their aircraft broke down.

I get the sense the 2014 Tigers are a tight knit group   comfortable in their own skins   cut of the same cloth a very fun group.  Sweeps of the Orioles and Red Sox earn you the right to wear such things, I suppose.

Detroit Tigers players, including Miguel Cabrera, Justin Verlander and Torii Hunter, pose in their Zubaz outfits, May 18, 2014.

These outfits are phenomenal and it does underscore just how much fun this team is having right now. It is great to see that and to see them get out to this 27-12 start (a full seven games ahead of KC right now, I believe).

Actually, I wonder if that "Turn Down For What" shirt is generally available - I like that!

Seriously love these things. Have been searching online for them, with no luck (pants are the only thing I can find, and they are only available in xs and s). Wouldnt mind finding the "turn down for what?" T-shirt either.

That was one thing I was going to say. There have been several comments that implied that this is new to this season. The Tigers have been a close and lose team for years. Prince Fielder and Miggy were and I think still are very close. The winning this year may be taking it to a new level but this video was from 2013 and clearly they were having fun them.

There is something special building with this team, I think. They are not the lethargic, behemoth like teams of recent years. They have a lot more consistency and are able to grind it out and win close games when they have to.

Last year’s team seemed to be unmotivated a lot of times and it took a lot for them to get going.

I had just returned to the US after living overseas for almost 3 years, and that year was the first I had an opportunity to watch a lot of games in a long time.  I paid attention to the box scores, watched a lot of 8th and 9th inning victories that they grinded out and this year seems very similar.  The attitude of this team is awesome and it looks like they've taken all the great things Smokes left behind and Ausmus has added a youthful energy.

The ESPN write up from last night's game (courtesy of the AP)....  "Mike Avila's RBI single increased Detroit's lead to 5-2 in the sixth."   Uhhhh, who?

I'd say the clubhouse is, uh, pretty loose. :)  Whether that is due to Ausmus or team leadership, it's obviously working.  They seem to be acting way more like a college team than a pro baseball team which IMO is a very good thing.
