OT Detroit Tigers 5-17-10

Submitted by Blue boy johnson on

Hope to see a repeat performance out of Porcello tonight. Tigers and White Sox are always entertaining games.

Saw this stat on ESPN's preview of the game, pretty impressive to win 4 straight series against last years AL playoff teams.

Detroit (22-16) is 14-5 at Comerica Park and went 10-3 in its last 13 at home, winning series against Minnesota, Los Angeles, New York and Boston. The Tigers are the first team to win four straight home series against reigning playoff teams since 1995, when baseball began putting four teams in the postseason.

still not convinced they have the pitching or the back half of the lineup but it looks like they have a bit of heart

Any chance of the White Sox imploding and Kenny breaking out pink slips if the Tigers thrash the White Sox in the two game series?

I think Olney had an article where it showed the Tigers have the 3rd highest number of innings pitched by the bullpen.  That could catch up to us.  Miner being done for a while longer isn't great news either.  Hopefully Scherzer gets his game right and can last later in the game if/when he comes back up.

But part of that is because we have a lot of quality options in the bullpen. If you are the Cubs or Royals, without talented pitchers in the bullpen, you want your starters to pitch 8 or 9 innings just because you don't trust the pen. If you have a solid bullpen, you can pull the starter in the 6th inning based on situation/match-up if you have the need. As long as the innings per pitcher is tracked by Leyland and co, things will be fine in August.

I agree that this isn't a big deal for us.  Like david said, we have a number of relievers that come in and eat up innings for us.  Zumaya, Coke, Perry, Bonine, even Ni have done so well out of the bullpen and have done a good job of getting through the middle-late innings.  Those guys have all pitched around the same number of innings (roughly) and have low WHIPs, indicating they aren't throwing a ton of pitches when they come in.  Our bullpen is also 11-4, so you know they're looking good.

Could become a big deal. Why do you think Bonderman came in for an inning the other night? Porcello and Willis need to start going at least six innings consistently or it might become an issue later in the season, especially with Bonine and Ni having smoke and mirror stats so far.

Edit: Of course this got negged lol, it contains facts and opens up the possibility of something bad happening. Give me a break.

Son of a bitch, the last two times Porcello was scheduled to start the game has gotten postponed.

Can someone on the East side inform me as to how bad the weather is? I'm in Lansing and there hasn't been a drop of rain all day/night. Kinda gloomy, but I didn't see this postponement coming at all.

The Sox radio crew was on for about 2 minutes and said that it had just started coming down a bit harder -- the postponement announcement was made about 30 seconds before they came on the air.

Also, the forecast appears to be for showers tomorrow too, so cross your fingers on that one happening.  Probably the same pitchers as were scheduled for tonight.

Dammit I am just going to pretend there is a game tonight. Like Koufax' curveball snapping off like a fuckin' firecracker, in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
