OT: Detroit Tigers 10/6; 5pm

Submitted by MGoBlue22 on
As most of you are aware, it's come down to a one game playoff against the Twins. Rick Porcello (14-9) is going up against Scott Baker (15-9). I have to believe that Leyland will have the boys fired up to play, but I'd feel more confident if the game wasn't being played inside the Metrodome. Any predictions on the score? My guess is 7-1 Tigers, with Cabrera going 3 for 4. EDIT: Does anyone else think it was dumb of MLB to schedule the game at 5pm? I understand the impending travel schedule of the winner, but I'm going to miss the first few innings due to work.

That's why I criticize Leyland for playing him so much (though try doing that around here and see what you get). He literally costs the team runs when he hits. I appreciate the job he does handling the pitchers and throwing out runners, but I'd rather see him just strike out every time instead of grounding into so many double plays.

I know, I can hardly hide my disdain for him each game. I know "he's in for his defense" but at some point you have to be able to contribute something offensively other than strikeouts (the best he can usually offer, really), double plays and pop-up bunts. That's inexcusable when you don't hit well.

Thing is, the second-half swoon is nothing new for him, it's just that he had the wild card to fall back on in 2006 and a crappy division this year. He underachieved in 2007 and REALLY crapped the bed in 2008 and that made this year look good in comparison. Just incredible. Still hope for tonight, though.

What about in tie ballgames? I know his numbers have been terrible when he is in a game with a big lead (or way behind), but this is basically a save situation in that he needs to "save" the game so Detroit can try and win it in the 10th.
