OT: Derek Meech Re-signs
Having no idea who Meech was, had to click through to see it was OT. Modano to the Wings would spoil half my childhood. I was a Red Wings fan thanks to my first video game, NHL 96. At the same time, coming from Houston, the Stars and Modano were about as close as hockey came. I always pictured them as rivals, Modano vs the Wings. It screws up everything in my mind.
The longer this goes on, the less likely Modano is a Wing IME.
I think Meech either gets waived or traded before the season starts unless by some miracle he beats someone out.
I hope the Wings want Modano as badly as I want him as a Wing!

he wouldnt neccesarily be a key player on the team, (think Luc Robataille 2002). im all for getting him tho. on another note i thought the wings had signed Abdelkader in the first few weeks of free agency but i could be mistaken for Drew Miller. Meech should be traded however because honestly i dont see a spot for him on the team, and as mentioned by Kenny Holland, theyre still looking for a decent 3rd defenseman to play with erickson
Miller and Eaves were signed. Abs and Helm remain to be signed along with either Modano or maybe another D-man.
Why does everyone think Meech will be traded? He's signed to a minimum salary as a 7th defenceman who can also play on the 4th line in a pinch. If Meech gets traded, then who's the 7th D-Man? Re-sign Lilja? (And, actually, I really like Lilja, but I don't see how he would be back in Detroit unless he takes about half what he was paid last season.)
He has 7th defenseman written all over him....he's a good depth guy.
