Edit: from the link posted by jhender85 below...
Detroit Tigers slugger Delmon Young was arrested early this morning after he allegedly assaulted a man in front of a Midtown hotel, police sources told The Post.
Can't hit the baseball. Take it out on some random person on the street. Way to go Delmon.
Time to recall Inge?
This never would have happened if they had a strong leader in the clubhouse like a Brandon Inge.
The team will soon go to shambles. They need a leader. You know, a Brandon-Inge-type.
Without a clubhouse leader, a real team guy, like an Inge, I predict 35 wins this year.
Who on this team will provide the leadership, the grit, the hustle, the leadership, and the hustle you need to win? I don't see any Brandon Inges on the roster. 35 wins.
Time for Delmon to go.

Tell that to Albert Bell
Just further evidence that nothing good ever happens after midnight.
I disagree. I've been laid many times after midnight, and let me tell you, it's awesome.
Well, certain caveats and exceptions always apply to every rule.

I'll trust you on that.

YouTube took my sex tape down, so I had to go with a celebratory song instead.

too short?

Bazinga! It sure as hell isn't too long. Ok, this is getting out of control. I will refrain from any further dick jokes/references.

Ummmm I think he meant the length of the video. But it takes a big man to admit what you have.
Double entendre.
Triple entendre.
getting into trouble and flaming out runs in the family
What terrible news.
Out at 2:40 a.m. "highly intoxicated"? C'mon, Delmon. Show me some better decision-making skills. I guess nothing cures the malaise induced by getting swept at home by the Mariners than getting shit-faced in Manhattan. At least they have a day off before playing the Yanks. Wait...what's that? They play tonight? Welcome to the Leyland doghouse, Delmon.
The charges are minor, and probably unnecessary. However, to expand on what NB noted, being intoxicated at a bar at 2:40 am is just plain unprofessional for someone whose career depends on split-second reflexes.
Do people facing 90 mph fastballs and curves that drop off of the table every day really need to drink to the point of intoxication? If most of us go out and drink, and it affects our reflexes the next day by one or two tenths of a second, it probably won't affect our jobs. When a guy playing in MLB does it, though, it can make a big difference.
Maybe that's why he doesn't hit as well as people think he could.
Not saying they should be doing it, it is just a fact of life.
this is total BS.

How has this organization every shown that it holds players accountable. If you suck, you will still play and even get contract extensions, if you get drunk and get arrested you get to play. Come on.
I will be shocked if they do anything to Delmon.

OK...maybe wishful thinking on my part. This extremely unprofessional behavior should, at a minimum, land a player in the proverbial doghouse. But maybe I'm naive in thinking that doghouses exist at the professional level.
Depending on the legalities of this particular situation (hate crimes?), Delmon may be in more than the doghouse.

They don't, but they aren't trying to mold student-athletes into better human beings, which is the case for the majority of disciplinary cases discussed on this blog. Professional baseball is a business -- you do what you needs to be done to win.

If you are shocked at a baseball player being highly intoxicated at 2:40a.m with a game the next day, please take a moment to review the entire history of baseball. You will be less shocked.
Babe Ruth for example.
Well, at least we can give Dirks some at bats. Plus the defense in left will definitely improve. However, I am guessing Raburn will get the start and our defense and offense will get worse.
Pull it together Tigers...Sad we need a baby sitter for D town players

He is also the only guy who showed up against Texas last year.
It's early. He will come around.

...Because your sample size is so big.
What would Terelle Pryor have to say about this?
Not everybody is a perfect person in this world. I mean, everyone does ... gets intoxicated in front of their hotel at 2:40 in the morning, scratches people, assaults you, assaults me. I just feel people need to give him a chance. I always looked up to Delmon Young and I always will because I still think he's one of the best outfielders to me and I just love Delmon Young.
that there is absolutely no need to be out drunk at 2:40 in the morning. However, since when does a "brawl" involve only 2 people? Also, who calls the cops after getting pushed? Assault seems a bit of a stretch for someone that got treated for "scratches on their arm" at the scene.

I think maybe people are failing to grasp the key point here: he allegedly used anti-semitic slurs.
April 27th, 2012 at 11:58 AM ^
that before that information came out. There's no excuse for a professional athlete, or anybody, to resort to that kind of behavior.
That being said, the headline is still highly exaggerated in my view. This hardly sounds like a brawl.
I'm sure they would be shocked to hear this in Tampa Bay and Minneapolis.
I think the writer was highly intoxicated after reading this gem.

The Freep reports Young faces an “aggravated harassment hate crime” charge.
Allegedly there were anti-Semitic remarks made. Once race, religion, sexual preference, etc., muddies the water, my observation is that it becomes much more difficult to end such charges quietly.
April 27th, 2012 at 10:18 AM ^
Apparently Delmon was flinging some anti-Jewish remarks at a dude who may not even have been Jewish. Definitely not a bright dude.
April 27th, 2012 at 10:07 AM ^
Dudes go out, dudes get drunk, dudes get in fights... as long as the dude rakes I'm ok with it as long as it doesn't become a habit.
April 27th, 2012 at 10:28 AM ^
he allegedly uttered an anti-semetic slur. I do not want violent bigots on my team, k thx.

Eh... Ty Cobb was a sum bitch.
Delmon was wasted. Delmon is ignorant. Delmon isn't paid to be an intellectual.
