University of Alabama running back Dee Hart, 21, was arrested Sunday by the Tuscaloosa County Sherrif's Office and charged with giving false information and possession of marijuana.

Hart was booked into the jail at 9:20 p.m. on Sunday and released on a $1,300 bond at 10:33 p.m. Both charges are misdemeanors.

A sophomore in 2013, Hart compiled 78 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. For his career he has 166 yards on 43 carries.

I wonder if this is exactly what Saban wants. He needs to cut down the roster, after all.

UPDATE: Apparently Dee Hart hasn't been on the team since the January bowl loss to Oklahoma. (LINK)

2nd UPDATE: And Dee was using counterfeit money, too?!? (LINK)

to give a few kids counterfit money, then has them tailed until they buy something illicit with it, then informs the police.

Woo, it goes deep in Tuscaloosa

I wouldn't go so far as to say Saban was "happy" to hear this news but I doubt he was distraught about it.  I believe he has had multiple arressts/releases every offseason so this is par for the course.

omg 5* guy has never seen significant playing time down there. I'm a bit surprised that he hasn't encountered a "medical hardship" of some kind. I wonder if he regrets going to Alabama at this point

An aside question: Why is it that so many football players manage to get caught smoking weed? We know weed is popular among players. But I doubt it's any more popular among players than it is among students in general. And yet how many students actually get arrested for smoking weed? When I was in college, I was surrounded by stoners. But I don't recall a single one of them ever getting arrested for smoking a joint. I can't prove this, but it sort of feels as if maybe players get targeted -- especially black players in southern towns.

I know regular students don't make headlines. But I just don't recall ever seeing regular students booked for smoking small quantities of weed. And I went to three different schools. Almost always, cops just confiscated the weed and left. But maybe it's a north/south thing. Most of the players who get arrested seem to be in southern towns.

saban already got what he needed from hart - a buddy for HaHa.  he's going to be cut in some righteous press release about how this kind of behavior is only tolerated when saban doesn't need to cut his roster down.
