OT: Decent hoops team there in Oakland, CA

Submitted by SpinachAssassin on

One of the most incredible basketball games I've seen in recent memory, regular season or otherwise. Curry is a savant on the court and the rest of that team's pieces fit in so, so well. 72 wins or not, what a fun team to watch.

The Big O probably didn't like the outcome...

But I'll try anyway. I love on the replay as Curry is about to pull up from 35 feet several people on the OKC bench just sort of raise their arms in frustration. They know Curry from that distance is deadly.

Here is a vine of Curry's game-winning 3 from 30+ feet: https://vine.co/v/i69FdlumTxB

And moving back the 3 point line won't help. Curry is 11/22 (50%) on 3s from 30+ feet out this season.

I'm rooting for Golden State to break Chicago's record en route to repeating.

And ESPN is saying it was from 38.4 feet. https://vine.co/v/i6Vz95bY5TP

From Pistol's Wiki

"He had always been famous for his long-range shooting, and his final year provided an official statistical gauge of his abilities. Between his limited playing time in Utah and Boston, he made 10 of 15 3-point shots, giving him a career 67% completion rate behind the arc."

That game was amazing. Curry is insane, dude literally has in the gym range. He took one dribble over half court for the game and just cash. All the old, get off my lawn HOF players need to get off of Steph. For me, only two players have ever seemed to be poetry in motion on the court; Steph and Jordan. Those two make everything look effortless.

He is so effortless. I haven't enjoyed watching a player like this in a very long time. Curry is dialed in and on top of his game. So much fun to watch ( and I don't care what the old time hating greats have to say about him).

what the old time hating greats have to say about him

Steph is not the prototypical MVP.  An old saying goes "You know you're over the target when you're taking flak."

I think what is causing the HOFers angst is that their conception of a great basketball player (size, dominant athleticism, and at least a very good shooter) can't defend/compete against a Steph Curry-like player (small, natural/graceful athlete, insane shooter).

0-8 with 2pts is a bad night for him by his standards. Obviously you're not mad at a guy getting 14 assists, 14 boards and 6 steals ... but he easily could've added 10 points to that line. Kind of weird that he missed a triple-double bc of points. I doubt that's very common.

But be wary of San Antonio come playoff time.  They have bigs to throw of Golden State's game plan and have length on the perimiter.  Steph and Thompson will get theirs, but the Spurs with the best coach in the league will be a very tough out.

Spurs also have a higher point differential than the Warriros right now....And while you could argue that is because many of the starters are out by the 4th quarter due to blowouts, the Spurs also rest their star players, often sitting them out for entire games.  That will be an epic series.

The Western Conference Finals should be an EPIC war between the Warriors (2015 NBA Champion) and the Spurs (2014 NBA Champion).

Only 9 teams in NBA history have won 45+ of their first 55 games by 10+ points per game.

7 of those 9 teams won the NBA Championship. The other two are this season's Warriors and Spurs.

"There can only be one."

does not a trend make.  Both are loaded and it will be a great strategic battle.  These things happen.  In 1985 the Boston Celtics won game 1 of the finals over the LA Lakersby more than 30 points in a game that referred to as teh Boston Massacre.    The Lakers went on to win the series 4-2. This year's Warriors lost to Portland by 30 a few games ago, also means nothing.

San Antonio is brutally good at home just like Golden State. It should be an incredible series.

lebron may be a more valuable player in terms of all the assets he brings to the table. but curry is the most fun player to watch since kobe in his prime, and maybe even more fun than that.

The NBA regular season can be such a bore but tonight's game was phenomenal.

The Spurs v Warriors conference final could honestly be the best playoff series in 20 years

Serious question: is it possible that steph might pass Lebron as an all time player when all said and done? Lebron seemed like the far and away best player of the generation just 2 years ago, and now I don't know if that will be the case
