Submitted by AHM16 on
Per Suter's agent he will announce today and rumblings on twitter suggest that both Parise and Suter are headed to the Wild ...

I guess I'll believe it when I see it. Without trying to sound like a homer, I seriously doubt anyone would pick the Wild over the Red Wings, or hell, even any of the other teams rumored to be in the mix

They started off well last year before tapering down the stretch. Now they have two more players to join in.

Might not make the playoffs but they'll come mighty close.

Disappointed the Wings didn't sign any of them. Could use some younger players to join in

The salary cap is set up so that the amount of money that counts against the cap is the entire salary divided by the number of years.  What teams do to get some extra cap room is sign top heavy deals that will extend beyond the player's career.

For example, Zetterberg signed a 12 year deal for 6 million for the first 10 years and 1 million for the last 2 years.  So even though we are paying him 6 mil a year, only 5. 17 goes toward the cap.  Zetterberg will prolly retire after 10 years (if not then we can release and re-sign), and we get almost an extra million of cap room every year.

So in the NHL, it makes sense to sign LONG term deals : )

Wow so ummm we're boned. Time to overpay for Matt Carle and even then we still will have a below average defense. Getting Suter was an absolute must, this stings big time.

Wonderful. Well it will be interesting to see what the next moves are going to be. Also does this put us in front for Weber next year?

We have something like 17 forwards on our roster with Tootoo and Sammy. Holland must have a plan B involving a trade and it may be for Aucoin of the Coyotes.

I guess the only good thing that comes from this is to see what the other free agents are doing.

As for the Wild, well I hope you guys are glad you just spent 200 million on 2 players, because the rest of your roster is still kind of a joke

is on the decline. The Wings are no longer Stanley Cup contenders, the Tigers suck, and the Pistons are terrible.

It looks as if the Leo's are our only hope for a professional title.

Good God.

What is happening to the world?  Guys used to come to Detroit at a discount.  Now they won't come even when we have extra money to throw at them?  We've got to get Semin or I'm gonna be really worried.  Haven't heard anything about him though.  I don't know who could help out the defense at this point.  As always the Wings need some muscle to balance out their skill guys.  And I hope someone appears before next year other than Shea Weber.  There's way too much animosity toward him in Detroit after the playoffs this year.

Think about it. Suter & Parise both for 13 years a piece at 90+ million. Would have been nice to get one, but both?!?! That's a monster chunk of cash to 2 guys. FOR 13 YEARS!!!

Is Suter really a 7-8 million dollar player? I don't think so. He was just a bright spot on a bad team. To me, it's tough to evaluate that risk of such a big contract.

Parise, on the other hand, is solid. Could have used him and worth 6-7 million. But I never envisioned him here anyway.

Look at Kronwalls deal. We got him til like 2045. Since he signed that deal, he's been declining. No one will take his deal from us. Unless he restructures, we're stuck.

I never thought I would live to see the day when the Lions have the best chance to win a championship. The Wings are screwed unless one of our late round picks turns into all stars. Ken Holland has not done too well these past few years.

However, the wild overpaid forr Suter and Parise. Only a moron would take a 9.3M cap hit for Suter. It isn't like Parise is Sidney Crosby.

Not sure where jasputan saw that, but Suter is not a 9.3M cap hit. Both are getting 98 Million for 13 years, which is a tad over 7.5M per year.

Jasputen's post above stated a 9.3M cap hit. My bad.

Point still stands the Wild believe that Suter is the next coming of Orr.

The wings are completely screwed for next season. I miss the old ways of the prior CBA, when the wings could create an all star team aka 2002.

Seems like a bunch of money being spent on two players, regardless of how good they are, but I'm not up on NHL salary structures and caps to know if this makes sense.  But if a team like Min can spend almost $200MM on player salaries, I do wonder if that is a sign the league is doing well financially or the Wild will be stuck with a really expensive, bad team 5 years from now.

I'm willing to bet that the Wild's franchise is doing well financially. They sell out just about every home game and the fan base is insane like Wing's fans. I am sure that the league is doing better overall than a few years back but there are still teams that I believe are in a little financial turmoil
