OT- David Schoenfield telling us what we already knew about Leyland (but with numbers!)
I have always felt that every cheer of support for Jim Leyland comes with a disclaimer.
"I love Leyland!.. butttttt he doesn't play small ball."
"I love Leyland!... but why is Craig Monroe still in the outfield?!"
And most relevant for this season:
"I love Leyland!... but why is Jhonny Peralta batting 8th today?"
In this short ESPN article, David Schoenfield addresses Jim Leyland's consistently questionable batting lineups:

In numerous Tigers threads. I firmly believe that Leyland's batting orders have probably cost us a game or two this season, last night being pretty egregious.
I was actually kind of hoping with the Delmon Young trade that Dombrowski was kicking Leyland into gear and having him reshuffle the lineup into something like Peralta-Boesch-Martinez-Cabrera-Avila. My hopes have been cruelly dashed.
I grant that he's probably great at holding the team togehter, I just propose that he not be allowed to determine batting order ever again.

Batting order means very little after the first inning...especially in the AL

FormerWolv, when are you going to bless us with some morsels of fall camp information?

Leyland's problem is not playing players enough. Cabrera plays every day so why does everyone else get 3 days off a week. If we played our lethal lineup of Boesch, Young, Cabrera, Martinez, Avila, Peralta, Betemit every night we'd have a lot more wins and not be neck and neck with Cleveland.

I like Leyland. That's probably why everyone hates him.
