As the title indicates, WDIV is reporting that Drew and Mike of 101.1 WRIF will be replaced by Dave and Chuck the Freak, formerly of 89x. Drew and Mike's last broadcast will be May 17th. As someone who really enjoyed Dave and Chuck's show on 89X, this is great news. Unfortunate, though, for the Drew and Mike fans.
OT - Dave and Chuck the Freak to replace 101.1's Drew and Mike
"Baby!!" That is old school right there.
I remember WLLZ. Also WIQB Rock 103. /nostalgia
Kelly. And Mark Harmon's seester.
I've only been on the East Coast for a month and the morning show isn't terrible, but I really miss Detroit metro radio.
The only "alternative rock" radio station I get here is the lamest thing imaginable. Like the anti-89x.
Get I heart radio and listen to KROQ. Best rock station in the country, maybe by a long shot.
I miss that about LA. That and In-N-Out.
Whataburger slays all.
As good as 2x4 animal style with chopped chilis extra toast is, I think would definitely take a Culver's butter burger over it any day (mmm, butter burger). Only had Habit Burger once, Whataburger is meh, and while still good, I can't say I've been horribly impressed with Five Guys (haven't been to Smashburger). However, you still have to respect In-N-Out for how well they treat and pay their employees, which definitely shows through in the service.
To further deviate, even though it's not a "burger joint," Chick-fil-A trumps them all. Man, living back in Ann Arbor definitely makes me miss all the better fast food options I had when I was in Arizona.
Chick-fil-a is the best fast food, but I disagree Whataburger is the whip to me. While living in Ann Arbor I drove my son and I to Maumee, OH to grab some Chick-fil-a at their mall. Worth every mile to me. Only took about 40 mins.
What I wouldn't do for an Arizona burrito from Fili B's, or better yet, a white hot from Ted's in Tempe. As for coney dogs, I know the Upper Deck in Old Town Scottsdale (owned by an MSU alum, or at least was when I was there) had some pretty decent ones with dogs shipped from Michigan, and while the name slips me, there was another little place in South Scottsdale owned by another former Michigan resident that did a good version as well.
But yeah, it's a more than fair trade to give up the fast food options in Arizona in order to have easy access to Coney Islands, Blimpy and Zingerman's again
Does Five Guys or Culvers even qualify as "fast food burgers?" Isn't Culvers more your Big Boy, Steak and Shake sit down casual? And Five Guys I guess is not really sit down, but it's more made to order. As long as I usually wait there I wouldn't consider it "fast." You should be comparing In and Out with McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's.... I mean, Famous Dave's is a chain, but it serves a lot better food than any of those places. Because it's a different level/style of chain. Chain doesn't equal fast food.
Culvers, as well as Steak n Shake, have a drive thru, and that makes them a fast food place in my book. And Five Guys does more fit into the walk up, made to order category with Habit Burger and Smashburger, but you can't have a fast service burger joint convo without them included. "Mega" chains like McDonalds are a different category all together and can't even compete with the aformentioned restaurants in the taste and service categories.
comperable to Big Boy, at least from my memories in Dearborn or the ones in Ohio. I can kind of see Steak N Shake, but the easier line to draw would probably be tipped wait staff, which puts Culvers and Five guys in that category that would include Potbelly and Chipotle.
Haven't had any of the west coast stuff, but personally I prefer Five Guys for a regular burger, Culvers for something "fancier" (I'm about to head out and get that new colby jack one with a side of cheese curds, thanks MGoBoard).
Not sure about Culvers, but I don't believe any of the others you mentioned have drive-thru which to me is a somewhat important part of true "fast" food. I do think Smashburger and Habit are better though. And Five Guys is like twice as expensive as the other options but not nearly twice as good...
Big news indeed. I'm the opposite, OP, I liked Drew and Mike much more than the other two. Of course that may be my old balls talking. I wonder if this has anything to do with Mike Clark's extended absence.
Time to renew Sirius.
Your balls talk?
Sadly Sirius is taking a major turn towards the worse. Scott Ferrall left Howard 101 and now is with CBS Sports Radio. He had the most entertaining sports talk show on sirius.
I was wondering where they were going to end up
Because I thought you were referring to Mike Valenti. But both teams you refer to are enjoyable.
which streaming app is 101.1 on? does anyone know? I've moved out of Detroit and there show is about the only one I miss. I'd love to listen to them on my AM drive...
I just checked on my Tunein radio app and it sounds like its live and works.
Fuck that....I hate DAve and Chuck. Daves laugh is grating and I can't stand how all Chuck talks about is his small penis. I love Drew and Mike, and to be fair, I like Cal and Co. But that show is horrible
don't have the "It is what it is" show with Shawn/Shaun/Sean Badouchian. Talk about grating. That guy's voice and constant stammering is enough to make me swerve my truck into a g-d bridge abutment.
A less well-known Tommy Boy line, I enjoyed it.
I've only listened to Dave & Chuck a little, so I don't know that I've ever heard him talk about his penis.
It reminds me of when I stopped listening to Drew & Mike about 10-12 years ago because I couldn't stand hearing Mike's "Butt Mike" all the damn time. Once - okay. Twice - whatever, but all the damn time got old real quick.
I did start listening to Drew & Mike a couple of years ago once or twice a week, but never on a daily basis.
Wait what?....NO! I moved back home to Houston and I love listening to their morning show. Beats anything here in Houston for sure. So the whole show has to go because there can't be a Mike on the show? Drew was the force behind the entire thing! Get an intern and keep the show ON!
Mike is actually back and has been for a few weeks. But he was out for an extended period. In their parlance, my mentioning of a connection between the two (Mike's absence and subsequent replacement) was "irresponsible speculation". Totally warranted in this case.
Finally!!!!! Dave and chuck will be back. They have been gone to long and my mornings just haven't been the same since they were off the air.
I'm more of a Crazy Ira and the Douche guy myself.
I love drew, mike not so much but I think Wolters would replace him in the end. Anyone know why this is?
often make changes just for the sake of changes - which has always been annoying to me. They have on-air personalities that a lot of people have gotten to like and then they yank them off the air with no warning. Which is the other thing I really dislike about the way many radio stations are managed. They make big changes in their format or DJ's without a word of warning to their listeners or advertisers (customers). To me it shows a lack of respect for the people who are really supporting the station. In this case, at least we know May 17th is their last day.
I haven't been in Detroit for years now, but the morning radio in NYC is pretty horrible. Whenever I visited Drew and Mike reminded me how good morning radio should be. That said, I guess it was time for a shift.
Radio...who needs a radio? Ready, Harry?
For years I was a loyal Drew and Mike listener, and then fell off the wagon when Drew took off several years ago. I finally made the switch back to them a couple weeks back for my morning drive, and just this morning I was laughing out loud listening.
I like Dave and Chuck, but they were always my 2nd option.
Bob & Tom all the way.
Very disappointing for D&M fans. I guess I understand the move from WRIF's perspective. I've long thought it was weird that they stuck with the same playlists and never tried infuse newer rock with the classics.
Now I would presume they'll change things up quickly instead what they could have done gradually.
This seems like quite the risky move though. D&C have a nice cult following, but D&M get major ratings. If they stay on the morning drive on another station, then this could be one of those decisions a WRIF suit gets fired over. Very interesting.
