OT - A dark time in sport history

Submitted by JPQ on
I feel this time will be remembered as one of the darkest eras in Michigan sports history. Granted, the Wings and Pistons recently (within the last decade) won championships but even those celebrations seem ions away right now. All the pro teams are down though the Tigers might provide some relief next season. Though our beloved Wolverines are still rebuilding in football, the basketball team can still salvage the year with a strong season. Is it just me or does this seem like a miserable time to be a sports fan? I know things will get better next year but man ... /whiny rant.

just because we're Michigan. We have to earn it like everyone else. Gone are the days of "guaranteed" B10 dominance. I think we'll get back to the top, and our 40 years in the desert will make it all the more enjoyable.

Detroit franchises (except the Lions) have enjoyed an awful lot of success this decade for teams in a medium-sized market. Really, the city's sports teams have overperformed given their natural advantages, and now they are returning to expected form. Remember, there are 122 franchises in the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. Only four of them win a championship each year. Championships are fluky, historic occasions, not something you can really expect to happen. As for U-M, yeah it sucks to miss a bowl again. But watch the ND game again and it will put a smile on your face. Or watch the final drive of regulation against MSU. Those types of moments will happen more often in the future, as we gain experience and depth. And in the meantime, our hoops team promises to be the best we've had since possibly the Fab Five years. It could be worse - it could still be the Ellerbe/Amaker years.
