if you go into it thinking it's going to be better than the last one, you may be disappointed. Kind of like Return of the Jedi when it came out. Still an excellent movie, but when compared to Empire, it doesn't look so good.

Essentially, it's not often movies are as good as The Dark Knight, and expecting this next installment to be on that same level might open you up for a letdown, even if it is still a pretty good movie in it's own right.

(I'll be going to see it sometime next week, and my expectations are through the roof, so I suppose this post is as much for me as anyone else)

I agree. Think it got overhyped because of Ledger's passing  - although he did turn in an awesome performance. I think Batman Begins is every bit as good as TDK. But I'm also a sucker for almost anything Batman having read 40+ graphic novels and still watch Batman: The Animated Series from the early 90s. Not gonna be able to see TDKR until Tuesday, which sucks.

Overall, I think I will throroughly enjoy TDKR. Bane was a very brave choice of villain IMO, but Nolan has the chops to make it work. He's also staying on as a producer for when they revamp the series.....which is weird.

I still think that Batman Begins(I loved it) was a better overall movie.  I feel Nolan tried to put too much into DK and wasn't able to develop everything as well as he should have.

I laughed out loud when I saw this.  Wiggles got "not the beating he deserved, but the one that he needed"...

We will revisit Gotham sometime soon. I mean, you've got Catwoman (there still hasn't been anything approaching a good catwoman movie), Nightwing and a host of other heroes. Shoot, they've developed Comm Gordon so well I could see him getting his own movie outright, though it'd be a traditional action/thriller.

Seriously, though, Catwoman hits the same heist that a bigger adversary, say a realized (less comical) version of Riddler hits. She's the anti-hero, so now she can do just about any badass thing she wants while Riddler & thugs try to have her killed. I dunno. I just don't think we're done with Gotham.

They are also revamping the Batman series much like what they've done with Spiderman. And DC wants a Justice League movie eventually as well. So I imagine we'll still be seeing plenty of Batman and Co. in the coming years.

I have no use for the new Spiderman movies and I think that the studios will find that these reboots will flop. We're not talking art-films where different directors interpretations are key. These are money-grab reboots that have been crowdsourced.

I should note that I have no problem with remakes and reboots, but give it a couple decades. Allow the technology and culture to advance and change our views of what something can/should be.

Has pulled in half a billion dollars worldwide, the planned triology is probably going through. Even if it's not as successful as the previous movies.  The world market is just so much bigger now, no matter what the bean counters say, it's really hard to lose money on a movie once all the foreign, tv, and video rights are paid for.

I'm guessing a movie like Spiderman is attracting a big chunk of its audience from teenagers.  Those kids who were 4-6 years old when the first Tobey Maguire movies came out probably don't view the new one as being rushed, but as something completely new.

I think we're also seeing that there is always a market for these characters, and an enormous one if the product is actually good.  Hell, the few people who still actually read the comics want new stories about these characters on a weekly basis.  And even if it sucks, you are going to get just about everybody to at least see it once (in the same vein, we'd all probably go see a new Star Wars movie if it came out, if only to confirm that it sucks and vent our collective frustration at the screen).

I saw an early screening last night, and for 3 years I said TDKR could never iive up to The Dark Knight. Personally, I thought it was fantastic, if not better than The Dark Knight. At the very least it will not disappoint you, and I suggest seeing it as soon as possible.

If you never saw Batman Begins though you may get a tad lost, he references it a bit.

O-H-I-O: Because the "YMCA" wasn't gay enough.

Definitely going to be bitter sweet.  While I imagine it is going to be amazing, I'll be quite sad once the credits roll knowing that Christopher Nolan will never helm another Batman film again.  That being said, as long as he keeps making movies, I'll be quite happy.

I haven't heard if Nolan had any "screenings" prior to filming Dark Knight Rises, but I know he used Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities as inspiriation...

I was a huge fan of the Christopher Reeve movies (and will even defend III and IV if pressed) and the last movie was just awful.  Between casting Kate Bosworth (who looked 12 years old) to play a grizzled veteran reporter who was supposed to be 5 years older than the already weathered Margot Kidder from Superman II, the extensive brooding by the Man of Steel, and (as Kevin Smith has pointed out) the failure of Lois Lane to freak out when (remembering that she'd had her memory of their romantic encounters wiped out in Superman II) she realizes she has given birth to the child of a superhero with whom she has never (in her mind at least) had sexual relations.

Really hope they don't screw it up again or just follow the Batman formula and go for a super-dark Superman.

It is spelled HOKEAMANIA.  Our coach is an ass-kicking American citizen, not one of the Beatles, for Christ's sake!

I'm glad that I am not the only person kind of annoyed by the fact that all of these American superheroes are being portrayed by non-Americans.

When I watch a movie about England, I expect the actors to be English. When I watch a film about Australia, I expect the actors to be Australian. And, by God, when I watch a movie about superheroes (an American invention), I expect the actors to be American.
