OT: Darius Rucker scores TD in SCAR Spring Game

Submitted by WichitanWolverine on
I'm watching the SCAR spring game and on the first drive their QB aired it out to nobody in the endzone. Miraculously, Hootie appeared out of thin air and caught it for a TD. I guess this is a recurring thing they do where they have a celebrity catch the first TD every year. I thought "Heh, I guess that's fun for the fans" until I realized they kept Hootie's points on the board. The score is currently 7-0, Blowfish over the Gamecocks, with a few minutes left in the first. Do any other schools do anything this stupid? P.S. Damn you, off-season...

Didn't he catch a TD from Dan Marino too?

Edit: nope, displayed stone hands and couldn't hold onto the pass.  Good to see his hands have improved over the last 20 years.

OK, I feel old now.

Yes other programs do this. Idk about D1 programs, but I have seen several smaller D2 programs do this at their spring games, including SVSU and GVSU. Usually it's some local radio or celebrity host and not a major recording artist. It's usually just for the fans. I hate it, but I get it. All about drawing a crowd.

Nebraska had the little boy with cancer score a long touchdown run in their game a few years ago. That was pretty awesome. More recently, Bo came out with a cat and held it up Simba-style. I'm going to miss Bo.

But you're throwing me off calling Bo Pelini by his first name only on a Michigan blog.  "Bo" = Glenn Edward "Bo" Schembechler and not Bo Pelini, Bo Derek, Beaux Brummel, Botox, Bo Jackson, Bo Weevil etc.

The same as "Jesus" by first name only connotes, in my mind, the star of the second half of the King James Bible, and not Jesus Navas, Jesus Silva, Jesus Flores, Jesus Alberto Miranda Perez, etc.

I suspect this is more "my issue" than "an issue" - but I felt like tossing the thought out there!  FWIW, I'm going to miss Bo Pelini in the B1G also.  Odd choice of replacement by Nebraska there.

Don't know how Spurrier gets kids to go there. Columbia is hotter than Hades, city is less than attractive, and campus is laid out awkwardly.

It's not as if he's reeling in top 10 classes each year.  He benefits by being a coach with a big name at a big school in a big time conference.  And there is a lot of talent to go around in the Southeast.

I don't know how he's not on the hot seat down there.  I'm sure they're not paying him to go 8-4, 9-3 every year.

What do you mean about campus being laid out awkwardly? The campus is pretty much all together. Other than the football stadium being located about a mile or so off campus, I never found it to be an awkward layout. Agree about it being hotter than hell in Columbia, but the athletes they recruit are all from the South, so they're used to it. There's quite a bit of instate talent, so it's not hard to keep them home to play. And the states of Georgia and Florida produce more than enough talent so that USC can snag a few players from each state.

Columbia is hot as shit but Lake Murray helps in some parts of the city (Lexington, Chapin).  The campus is actually not laid out awkwardly at all and Columbia is actually a pretty fun college town.  He doesn't recruit all that well but develops talent and the occasional 2-3 JUCO's a year doesn't hurt either.

Now I'm really glad DB is gone. He would've read this and had those clowns who recorded that pro-UM song he insisted on blasting over the p.a. going out for passes in real games.
