Whatever makes him feel better about his #39 ranked class
OT: Dantonio says MSU got top player in MI
The best thing you can say about Douchetonio and MSU is that they are perfect for one another. It's also the worst thing.
whatever! Always easy to make the numbers/rankings slant your way.
He wasn't a consensus choice. The Detroit News went with Ojemudia.
That just means he wasn't the unanimous choice.
Is he ranked #1 by everyone except the News? I don't think so. I don't think the Rivals analysts had him #1 in the state either.
Michigan has everyone else in the Top 10, minus DO'B.
They also recruited nationally, and very well in Ohio.
...but, yeah, MSU got the #1 player in Michigan.
what the word consensus means.
the person probably means unanimous, but the two words don't mean the same thing.
I only point this out because it is a fairly widespread misconception. As a Dr. I sit on many committee's and all operate on a concensus basis which means you come to your conclusions collectively as a group. If we had to achieve unanimous votes to get anything done, nothing would ever progress.
Unanimous means everyone agrees. Concensus means it is collectively what the group could agree on, not necessarily what each indidvidual in the group wanted.
A for instance would be: I have quadrulet 3 and a half year olds who all like different tv shows. If I wanted them to unanimously agree what show to watch they could never do it. Now if I told each of them to list their top five choices of tv shows and pass them to me, we could compare the lists and pick one that appears on all four. It wasn't any of their first choices, but they all agree to watch it.
I think that is a fair statement, and also a douchy one.
"Wow thats great coach! Anyone else?"
"Who said that"
Prob true, but he's still a douchtard
Where did you get your avatar pic?
Can a strong argument be made for him, yes.
Even if it is 100% true I'll take 7 out of top 10 and lose the top guy.
Insert joke about Dantonio only wanting one of the top ten from michigan because he is a national recruiter.
He got the top recruit from each state, no?
With the commitment of Norfleet, we get to 9 out of 15 (60%) of the Detroit News Blue Chip list that was published two weeks ago (http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120116/SPORTS0203/201160303).
Not to mention 9 out of 11 (82%) of those that decided to stay instate for college.
I think that goes in the W column.
We still got every one else who's good in the state of Michigan though.
Imma let you finish Dantonio, but Michigan signed a top-5 class this year.
You mean /Dantiono'd
I like to put them in my mouth!
"WE'RE NOT HERE TO HEAR ABOUT MSU RECRUITING - GRRRARG!
That's fine. They're not even in the top 25 for class rankings. Who gives a shit what he says about one player. 2 cheers for you Dantonio.
that ranked Burbidge as the top rated player in the state. That must have been the one article that Dantonio saw.
...may Burbridge have all the success at MSU that Charles Rodgers had with the Lions!
You have to something to cover up the fact your class is #40 on Rivals and #36 on Scout, while Michigan is Top 10 for sure and possibly Top 5.
This is the first year in his career Dantonio has been going up against a strong Michigan and Ohio State at the same time. The man should have used his success this year to jump, but he didn't and how he pays the price. Ohio State and Michigan get their pick of the litter. Notre Dame and Wisconsin get a bunch of high star guys but take smaller classes. MSU gets a pair of 4*s and then 3*s and 2*s. MSU is fifth for overall Midwestern recruiting at best.
He's been saying for awhile now that since OSU and M are back on top of the conference, it will impact MSU and PSU the hardest.
But I'm glad Mork Donatos got his moment.
I like Mattison's attitude toward rankings from the front page much better.
It's a good thing for Dantonio that recruiting classes are all about one guy.
Like how seasons are all about one game...
But I don't see how The Game is relevant to a thread about sparty.
Such bitterness. I dont blame him. Seriously how crappy would you feel if you had back to back 11 win seasons and got absolutely obliterated on the recruiting trail?
The good people at Scout ask "who gives a shit Mark". According to them Michigan is #4 nationally and your team currently holds down the #35 slot.
We'll see your number 1 player and raise you the rest of our class.
How the hell does does FSU have six 5*s and is only ranked #9?
Good for them.
We landed 7 of the top 10 kids in MI, and the top kid in Ohio.
Actually Dantonio shouldve said "msu got the top player in the state that couldnt get into UM and wanted to play with his teammates and buddies but could not do to bad grades so we will take him". Nice spin md.
This does work both ways however, as Northfleet would likely have committed to MSU had his grades been order during the beginning of his recruitment.
Furthermore, just to play devil's advocate, Burbridge's quote to the Detroit News doesn't really scream "I wanted to go to UM!" When asked why he didn't choose UM he said, "I'm not a real fan of Michigan..."
Just saying that I found it interesting.
Dantonio needs to just shut up and coach. He has lucked out and ran into a Michigan squad these past few years in a transition of coaches and players. Even this last year IMO Michigan beat themselves and MSU escaped AA with a win. I think MSU's run is over starting this year.
They played in Lansing, but I know what you mean.
Woops double post, screw MSU
they absolutely outplayed us this year and deserved to win. Also, the game was in EL, not AA.
I know who will get the # 1 next year and it won't be MSU, hello Shane.
In all fairness, it's very possible that ND gets the top player in Michigan for 2013. But if it's not Elmer, it's Shane, so we know whoever gets #1, he won't be going to State.
I forgot about Elmer, but like you said he can't hang his hat on that in 365 days.
Not enough points to start a post, but I work at a health system in Virginia and this came across the wire.
i ain't going to say much about dantonio. until we snap that 4 game win streak they have on us. regardless if it was our worst 3 years of football.
My disrespect for Dantonio is growing. What a brat. If it were true, Burbridge being the best in the state would be something to be QUIETLY proud of. Because of his posistion, that is an incredible disrespectful thing to lay out for all these kids that have worked so hard for their Schollies.
That little dick reminds me of Willie Olsen (Little House on the Prairie) "You guys got a lot of players but we got the best, nah, nah, nah ,nah."
A guy don't get negged for a Little House Reference does he???
For anyone wondering, he's looking at 247. All the other ones have Burbridge at #4 in the state at best.
Or Rivals, or Scout. ESPN is the only major "service" that doesn't have him as the top player in the state.
That's all they got.
MSU has awesome recruiting success in the I-96 / I-696 corridor.
sure he is prolly the best prospect in michigan, but Michigan could of had him if we wanted to take the chance on him accademically
And one that I would find a little comforting if I were Michigan State actually. They finished reasonably strong as well, with Cox/Madaris.
Mr. D. Anything that makes him smile.
While it is debateable, Burdbridge has been touted by several outlets (including our own MGoBlog analysts) as the best player in the State.
Having said that, I would much rather have our own in state haul than theirs.
Additionally, I find it funny on the RCMB (yes, I know..) that they are minimalizing their in state haul this year by saying (yes, this is true) that this was a particularly weak year in the state of Michigan talent wise.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't I read exactly the opposite? Isn't this a particularly STRONG year in talent for the State of Michigan (and Ohio as well)? I can recall reading this several places, even prior to the start of the recruiting season...and I can't recall a time when the state of MI having so many players go to top line BCS schools.
Am I wrong?
You've got to hand it to the guy, he knows his fan base will eat that up. He'll try anything to advertise the program as a heavy hitter in recruiting...even if the emporer has no clothes.
That's the difference between Hoke and Dantonio. Hoke would never brag about one recruit over another, especially when they will be teammates. How does that make the rest of the recruits from the state of MI that are now at MSU feel? This guy just can't get out of his own way.
Foot, meet mouth.
Its just too bad for Burbridge. The guy could have come with us.
-50000 might not do justice.
Well to be fair he got those for a horrible thread, not for swearing a bunch of anything
Michigan wiped the floor with this moron in recruiting the state of Michigan.
Nobody gives two shits what he thinks. I'm getting annoyed with how many threads about these fools have been posted recently.
Not only did he get the #1 recruit in the State, but through his magnetic personality, he was able to snakeoil about half a dozen guys from the MAC. Although, his charm wasn't flawless: despite MSU offers, 4 guys decided the MAC was more appealing (3 committed to CMU, and 1 to Toledo).
Here's what we're gonna do Mark. You're gonna suck it and we're gonna take our recruits and start thumping your skull.
This post needs to be seen by everybody.
Everyone don't forget speculation that he wanted to commit to UM but couldn't because of grades.
Most Spartan fans have been "Jim Jonesed" into believing that the series between UM-MSU has a four year history.
I'm more interested in what happens in the recruiting battles with OSU the next several years. Should be good to watch.
You do realize that we could lose for like 35 years straight and then you would finally be caught up in total wins right?
They can have "#1" as long as Michigan gets "#2 - #10"
Dantonio was all over the State and kicked our asses.
He picked up #1 Burbridge
Tennessee picked up #6 in O'Brien
and all we managed was
Which would have been fine if we hadn't picked up
#3 Kalis &
#4 Wormley in Ohio
God he's good
MSU recruits natioanllay !
We only recruited from 8 states (9 if we land Diamond) and he recruited from all 7 in the Union
I wish I had a pic of the Star Wars crew wearing Sparty Helmets!!!
Truth is, recruiting is about getting good athletes, and also about filling needs. He needed skill players and got some good ones. We needed depth and talent on the lines and we got 'em, as well as some skill players. How players are rated in college matters not one bit. We've got a great class, and as far as what Dantonio says, I don't really care. In fact, why did I even click on this thread--oh, yeah, I'm OC.
Most of us on this board are OC where this stuff is concerned
By being the biggest ass in the state of Michigan while representing Sparty, as only a true Sparty can. #Dick
We shit all over them in team rankings if you're into that kind of thing.
We shit all over them in team rankings if you're into that kind of thing.
Why does he care about getting the top player in Michigan anyway? Did he forget that they recruit nationally now???
dude got teabagged by michigan recruiting-wise this year. let him have his minor victory.
He's clearly just pandering to his fan base. Personally, I find it quite entertaining. The slow destruction of such an egotistical moron will be very fun to watch
I would say that we drank his milkshake but that would be wrong. It's our milkshake.
Whether he actually is the best player in the state is debatable. He failed to qualify academically to come to Michigan anyway. If he did qualify, he'd probably be a Wolverine.
What will Dantonio say if Burbridge doesn't qualify? Think he'll take it back?
I hear he's going to start recruiting in the state again... ironically. You've probably never heard of some of the players he's recruiting. They're not very mainstream.
The only problem with that is that a lot of the blue-collar guys they chased after went to Michigan.
I'm sure that will be of great comfort to Mark and the fanbase as MSU and their bevy of 30ish ranked football recruiting classes slide back to mediocrity.
It really is Dantonio's job to put the best spin on things. Isn't that what coaches do? But you know, I really don't care what Dantonio says. He is who he is, and we're so fortunate to have Hoke.
- I'm looking forward to what happens on the field next year. Greatly.
- Some people here care too much about what happens with Dantonio, Urban Meyer, RR, etc., etc. Hoke does a great job of focusing on what is important, and not worrying about the other guys in an unhealthy way.
I don't have the points or power to put this anywhere else
Apparently OSU is not taking Davonte NEAL. Scouts ranked #5 CB
oh Marky Mark... having a tough day with your mere 18 commits?
He and Mike Gundy can get together and wonder why their top 10 finishes have equated into below classes ranked 40th and lower
Not sure why that tool gets so much 'pub' around here, all the rankings mean nothing, time to produce on the field...
That's funny that he has to point to one specific recruit to make MSU's haul this year look better. It's the only way he can try make his class look good and not admit that MSU was owned by UM in recruiting this year. Sadly for him, it's only going to get worse.
Not to mention being a little bitch. As was said already, the ONLY other reason he's saying this is to try and mask the obvious fact everyone else knows - Michigan cleaned up in the state and took 7 of the top 10 players. His reign in Michigan is now over and he knows it.
That's a nice thing for that kid to hear, and they can both feel good about it. Nothing to see here.
I am surprised Mark Dantonio didn't indicate that they outrecruited my Temple Owls by 27 spots.
He makes it very hard to hate Urban Meyer the most......... between the Hecklinski thing at the MHSAA coaches clinic and all these little ignorant jabs I think my hatred is mutual now.
he is putting a positive spin on it. I bet he was #1 in at least one article. Nothing wrong with positive statements about your own program.
Needs to save face somehow. So called best player in a 40th ranked class. Ouuch
His excitement over signing "the #1 player in Michigan" might explain is dramatic outburst in interrupting Hecklinski at that high school coaches conference a couple weeks ago.
Who cares? Delusional people tell stories all the time.
He's gotta say something good about his recruiting class. Nothing wrong with being a bit of a spin doctor.
He has other, far more obnoxious traits worthy of complaint.
We really, really need to start beating his ass year after year again.
That picture reminds me of someone....
IMO...Dantonio has the right to swagger all he wants until we beat him on the field. They have won 4 years in a row, last year very decisively. I am looking forward to this class and Hoke's future classes turning the in-state tide back to our favor. But until then, there is not much we can fire back with other than recruiting rankings. So, save the ammunition until we meet on the field.
He keeps getting the # 1 guy in Michigan and recruiting nationally, and he might finish ahead of Cincinnati & Rutgers one of these days.
Is Urban a mute? Does anything ever happen at OSU? Why do people religiously obsess about every single MSU bit that hits the media ticker?
Is this real life?
Yes I'm sure Hoke would trade all his recruits for Dantonio's this year
There is no way anybody could even know that.
What? I don't care about the B1G's status in college football one one-thousand as much as I do about beating MSU and continuing to beat Ohio and Notre Dame.
On the original topic: add delusional to smug and merely an opportunist when describing Dantonio. Any Spartan will give you the "we don't need to recruit well, we develop talent" line but in all reality their '09 class was ranked 17th in the nation and since then the talent they've brought in has slowly regressed. There isn't room for Michigan, Ohio, Notre Dame, AND MSU to recruit great talent in the midwest; guess who gets left out to dry out of those four? Hoke emphasizing midwest recruiting and Meyer being in the picture is the worst thing that could have happened to MD.
You have to respect their on-field success the past four years, I'm not denying that. However, very soon they will fade away. You cannot have longstanding success while recruiting in the fashion that they do.
