OT: Danton to play Canadian University Hockey

Submitted by Blue in Yarmouth on

I know there are some differences between the USA and Canada and this is one of them I guess.

I remember in a discussion on the board a while back I had a debate with some others as to whether there should be lines drawn as to how much of a second chance we give people.

I am not going to get into who said what, but some posters were of the opinion that criminals should have a second chance but at the same time, that chance shouldn't include eligibility to UM.

Having a rather colorful past, I am a big advocate of second chances and I am glad to see that this guy is being given one. I am not an advocate of numberous chances, but I think second chances are deserved.

Mike Danton was convicted and jailed for conspiracy to commit murder and has since been released. He is now going to play university hockey for the St. Mary's Huskies in the future.

I wonder what the Freep would say if he was a football player and allowed to play for UM. Anyway, I just heard the news and thought it was interesting.

How he can play university hockey after playing a year of pro hockey however, is beyond me.

It was an intriguing story and I followed it closely while it unfolded.

Since his conviction many new things have come out about his alleged target. It was his agent, who had been his jr. hockey coach. They had been having a homosexual relationship and he forced Danton to estrange himself from his family.

After he was jailed his former agent/homosexual partner was arrested for abusing young teenagers while coaching in jr. hockey (some boys and some girls).

It was also said that Frost made Danton watch while he and some other of his players abused his brother.

After considering all the evidence that I saw unfold, I can't say what I would have done if in his shoes. Maybe the only thing I would have done different is eliminate the middle man and do it myself.

It is a terrible thing when adults in positions of power over the youth take advantage of it to any degree, especially in a way such as this.
