Now that the regular season is over, I think OT posts are allowed.
Anyhow, anyone see any Cyber Monday deals that stood out to them?
Mods: If this is too off topic, please delete.
I'm looking for a TV and some Hanukah gifts for the fam! Most excited about the "Winter is Coming" T-shirt with the dire wolf on it I just got for my 30 year old brother.
Amazon is always the best in my book, especially if you have Amazon Prime. There are some other really good places to get deals though, if you look around.
Amazon's CyberMonday site is pretty sweet, especially for electronics. I pretty much just checkin on the deals on it all day. There are/were some really cheap TVs if someone is looking to pickup a second TV for their bedroom or something.
In an hour or so we'll have the MGoStore cyber monday thing set up.
Fortunately for me, I have a hyper-organized wife who strategically filled my Amazon shopping cart yesterday, so that is essentially what my Cyber Monday experience is when it comes to gifts for other people. Now, I have the day to shop for myself - probably with like $10 given the size of my wife's cart.
If anyone needs new jeans, Levi's is having a sale today and you get another 40% off if you use the code CYBER40. I did a test order and it came out to about $26.50/pair.
same prices. 51" Samsung plasma for $427, Sony bluray WiFi player for $55. done.
Of the 3 main types of TV out there (LCD, LED, Plasma), is one type objectively better than the others? In my mind, it goes LED > Plasma > LCD, but I don't know very much about this stuff. If things like refresh rates and size are equal, will you notice much difference between the types?
From what I've read, plasmas are great for darker areas (e.g., a basement), but you'd probably want to go LED or LCD if it's in a room that gets a lot of light. I'm sure some people have strong feelings about it, but IME I think they all have pretty sweet pictures.
Plasma eat electricity and give off a ton of heat as well. The bonus is they give the best picture. I have a plasma and would definitely recommend one.
Plasma: deeper black levels is the big deal. No motion blur issues. Perfect for a man cave. Uses more electricity though.
LCD: Good picture but with screen uniformity issues occasionally and lesser black levels. 120 Hz panels get rid of most motion blur to not be a problem anymore (240 is overkill and not worth it). For brighter rooms, or energy conscious people it's the way to go. Will run a little more expensive up front than comparable plasmas though.
With a few limitations, plasma is the way to go. If you are in a bright room, there are certain reflection concerns to address, but plasma blows everything else out of the water in terms of picture quality, motion blur, etc. except for the largely unaffordable OLED's.
Panasonic, should you go with plasma, probably makes the best sets, although they are leaving the business.
for my price range 400-600 plasma is a steal. You want a minimum 120hz, 240hz start getting into the 1000s. Plasmas run different then LED, LED is basically LCD with some LED bulbs. I am waiting for LED to be cheap, it gets choppy at 60-120hz on some things. lifespan is better on LED.
plasmas are 600hz but its a different process so don't compare those.
LCD is the cheapest. Plasma generally has the best contrast ratio, so it gets the darkest blacks and the nicest picture. They are limited to about 60" in size, though, and have had issues with burn in (mostly resolved now). LED has the brightest colors and a much smoother feel to the images. I like plasma, but it seems to be a technology on the way out. If you like watching dark movies and TV shows, I'd say Plasma. if you play lots of video games and/or mostly watch sports, I'd say LED.
great for games, just clear the screen of permanent HUDs, like boxes or maps. Although as of next year Samsung is alone in making plasma, Panasonic is quitting next year.
picked up a samsung 60 inch plasma. can't beat the 600hz refresh rate for watching sports.
taxes. It would normally cost around $85 or so, so I jumped on that. I'll probably get something from the MGoStore and maybe a book or two from Amazon.
Also, check out woot.com, they're a daily deals site owned by amazon and occasionally have "woot-offs" or flash sales, including today.
I just got a 55in LG 1080 120 LED HD TV for $499 on Black Friday usually $999, the 300 W LG Soundbar for $180 usually $300, wall mount half off for $60, and a Stainless Steel Samsung 25.7 cubic feet French Door fridge for $1199 usually $1899...I got what I need lol
Always check the Sears Outlet stores. Great deals.
I almost went with one. I couldn't get a 55" in my stand though, my 51 barely fit. Luckily I'm 6'5" and have the arm length so I managed to mount it alone while the wife watched the kids.
I went to Best Buy the mount I got was a Rocketfish tilting mount and is universal for tvs from 32 inches to 70 inches
Just made the trip back down to Nashville. will be my Tuesday project setting it up!
Can't wait to see some ball on a big screen (bigger than my next biggest TV - 27" flat screen)
Campusden.com has 25% off and $1 shipping today with code cmtf1s. Premier Gardner jersey for $45 after coupon. Usually $85. New coaches polos are $35 after coupon too. Not too shabby.
I signed up for the American Express card that offers free amazon prime for a year and a $50 rebate if you spend $1,000 in the first three months. Then I used it to buy that $988 70" Vizio on Thursday(They finally had one in stock today...that is a long story, but alls well that ends well). Last night I got my electronics-crazed two year old one of the $35 newegg tablets. Today I bought the nieces and nephiews some video games on amazon at a decent savings.
