OT: Curtis Granderson one of 4 MLB players who may be suspended for PED use

Submitted by Michiganfootball13 on

Former Tiger's center fielder Curtis Granderson has been named by a source to be one of four players (three from the Yankees) to be facing a 50 game suspension for PED use.  Is PED use as rampant in other sports as it is in baseball, or do other leagues sweep it under the rug.  (This is not official but the guy coming out with this was right about Melky Cabrera being suspended last year before it was announced)

I wouldn't rush to judgment here.  I live in New York and there hasn't been the slightest hint of it in the news.  The guy had 40 followers as of this morning and 210 now.  I HIGHLY doubt he is the guy anybody would go to if they wanted to leak this story.

Besides, A-Rod and Braun are pretty easy to guess.  Cano and Granderson are power hitters on the most disliked team in baseball - at this point, If you want to say the guy is credible becuase he said the same thing about Melky last year - come on...everybody on planet earth saw that coming with the season he was putting together.  Cano and Granderson have been extremely consistent performs their entire careers, their power numbers haven't fluctuated recently (save when Grandy started making more contact and naturally lifted the ball towards the short porch in right, which is not PED related).  I'll wait for actual reporters to get their hands on it.

Are way worse on the PED front. As soon as the blood is tested more then say 1 time a year for HGH etc in other sports, you will see a huge drop off in production. The NFL is the worse as there is no set standard to HGH testing (blood) but when they do, I say look out as the LB that runs 4.3 and never misses a game to injury w be a distant memory!!!

Those are four huge names.  If they were caught, this would be due to testing last year.  Maybe the offseason, but I'd doubt it for all four.  A lot of people would know, from multiple teams.  Braun's 2011 test, which ocurred in October of that year, was reported on in December 2011.  I can't see that these names were sat on for 5 months.

Cano and the Yankees are supposedly close to announcing a huge contract extension.  No way they'd be talking if this was about to blow up in the news.

As for PED use in baseball -- MLB does more testing, plain and simple.  Compared with football, the season is much longer, which creates more opportunities for tests.  I'd be surprised if usage rates differed much across most sports, so the more you test, the more you catch.

But they don't use the most reliable means of testing. They use urine samples, which can be easily beaten through the use of masking agents.  The NFL does the same.

If our major sports leagues were serious about getting PEDs out of them, they'd adopt a biological passport system.  But they aren't.   They use outdated methods to ensure that only a handful of people (basically, the idiots) get caught, and so they can claim to their fanbases that their sport is largely "clean."

Relative to other US sports, they do, however. And I believe starting this year, they will be using blood tests for HGH. They also test for masking agents, and I'm fairly sure have suspended some players for that. Regardless, professional sports testing will always be behind the users, because a) you can't test for things until after you know they exist and b) because unions are allowed to collectively bargain testing procedures (as well they should, to protect their membership from false positives.)

Why is everyone so disappointed in him and everybody else? You have to look at things from the player's perspective: this is their life and their income source. They are doing everything they can do to be the best they can be. Are you disappointed in students that use adderall too? Personally, I think it's time we moved on.

Fuck Ryan Braun.  I hope he never plays the game of baseball again.

It's one thing to take PEDs, I get why people do it.  If you get caught, you get caught.  Man up and admit it.  Manny did it.  Melky did it (albeit after trying to hilariously wiggle out of it).  A-Rod did it (the first time).

I have absolutely no sympathy for this fucker who vehemently insulted the intellegence of anybody who enjoys the game.
