OT: Conundrum

What do you do when your favorite NFL team picks a player from a college team you despise?

Case in point: NY Giants just picked Greg Jones.

Depends how good he turns out to be.  It was hard not to be a chris spielman fan growing up, despite his questionable roots.

Just like when Chris Spielman played with the Lions, sometimes you have to cheer for someone you used to dispise.  The difference is that Spielman became a mensch, while Jones is more likely to wear "Spartan Orange."

What has Greg Jones done to make you say this?  All accounts I've heard or read are that he's a very upstanding individual who works hard, is a great leader, and hasn't been in any trouble.

Apologies if I'm wrong about this and you know something I don't, but I've not heard a negative thing about Greg Jones as a person from anyone or anywhere.

Criticize his physical abilities for purposes of playing in the NFL if you must (and apparently there is some support for doing so), but why trash a good kid?

Heaven forbid our little brother actually produces a player who happens to be a good player and an upstanding individual in the community.  Guess what... not every good person comes to UM. I know it is hard to believe but it actually happens. Get over it and root for the good guy on your team.  Chris Spielman case in point.

You'll forget.  I'm a Steeler fan and i hated when they drafted Santonio Holmes until he won the Super Bowl for us against the Cardinals.  And what do they go and do this year.  Go pick Cameron Heyward. I screamed NOOOOO!!! as soon as I saw that pick.

As a Pat fan, I hate Braylon Edwards, although he is a special case, I'm pretty sure many Michigan fans who aren't Michigan fans aren't a fan of him. I dislike Harris now as well.

As per the OP, if they play well, like Vrabel for the Pats, all is forgiven. If not, gives you a larger reason to hate them.

Look, if the Lions drafted an entire draft of OSU and MSU players...which led them to a Super Bowl...I would be just as happy as if it was an entire draft of Michigan players leading the Lions to a Super Bowl...

Now if they turn out to be wastes of space, I have less tolerance for them. But, if things are going well, I have no problem rooting for them on my professional team since they are no longer hurting Michigan...(with a disclaimer that there are circumstances that exist where this will not occur. For example, I would never, EVER root for Corey Tropp)

Keith Rivers and Rey Maualuga, for me it comes down to this:

If the player turns out to be a gamer, you forget where they went to school, or at least bury it away in the back of you mind.

If the player doesn't pan out you just end up hating them even more. Which is fine, they deserve to suck, after all they did play for [insert team here].

Personally, I liked Jones as a player, Sparty issues aside.  He seems like a high-character guy that I'd like to have on my team.  Far cry from Winston and the other cretins ...

For me it is not a big deal because I don't have a favorite pro team. I just root for former michigan players. I live so cal so the chargers have become a team to root for now.

And the slowing down of these idiotic threads.

You rrot for the Giants like always, meathead. If you are that hung up abour Michigan State--I suggest therapy.

I just take solace in the fact that, while pro sports are fun and all, they do not hold nearly as much importance as the holy trinity of CFB, family, and country (in that order).

I'm a giants fan, and my reaction was "Wow, we got the best LB in the Big 10 over the past three years in the sixth round?" (same reaction for Sash at S).

<br>I'm rooting against the MSU uniform more than anything. The next bad thing I hear about Greg Jones the person will be the first, so he's good with me.
