OT: Congrats to the Newest Wolverines!

Submitted by Zoltanrules on

This afternoon the first early decision applicants found out their fate. My daughter was amongst the lucky ones accepted and will be a third generation Wolverine! Without missing a beat she exclaimed, " Well Harbaugh better come now!".

The Daily ran a story with all the acceptance twitter reactions and it reminded me of one of the happiest days of my life being accepted to the greatest school in the land.

With the e-mail came a link and a simple and great video. Hope you like it half as much as I did:

Drop me a line. I'm sure our sons (or one plus the long lost twin?) would love to geek out together. They can talk the finer points of chip sets and disk vs solid state storage while you, your husband, my wife and I head to Zingerman's for the pastrami and corned beef.

Congrats to your daughter OP,

My son recieved the same email.  He is undecided at this point.

I am considering a drastic maneuver involving duct tape and faux explosives, as well as a duffel bag, van, and enough gas to get us to San Francisco in order to arrange a persuasive conversation among my son, a certain NFL coach, and myself.

Might have room for a few more.  Email me if interested.

/serious on the congrats though, hard work pays off

///EDIT: congrats to NJIA's daughter also -- still room in the van!

Congrats indeed. On a related note, I got my Round 1 decision from Ross today, and I was offered a spot on the wait list. For anyone who knows or has been in a similar situation, what are my chances of getting a spot in the class? And if you are admitted late in the process, do you still have access to the same financial aid, scholarships, etc.? Not too sure how the wait list process works Thanks, and Go Blue!

that is big stuff. and for the one whose child is 'undecided', well, you need to get to work mister.

and when i was accepted at michigan, it was somewhat anticlimactic as the hockey coach had it figured out for me ahead of time.   and the notice was sent on a stone tablet....

curious if any of my children will be going.  the oldest just got her psat's back and they were ultra-proud papa type of numbers.  she loves michigan too, so who knows.

Congrats!! Getting accepted to Ross was one of my most memorable moments - still proudly have the envelope with "congratulations" embossed across it and my acceptance letter.

My son just pulled his UM application and will be going to Cornell engineering. Still hoping one of my other two ends up in AA.

Welcome to the great big blue fraternity of the Michigan family.  I have literally had people say "Go Blue" in places as far away as Switzerland, Italy, Morocco, the UK and (even) Ohio.  Take it from me--as an alum, as a proud Michigan dad with an MGoDaughter there, who met the girl of his dreams there, and to whom Michigan has given far more than I ever expected, you are on a fantastic journey.  Welcome.

Now stay away from my daughter.  With a name like that you can't be too careful.

Just kidding (sorta!!).

Thanks! I have had three generations before me and countless relatives go to Michigan, so I am certainly quite familiar with the Maize and Blue fraternity. But after being a hard core fan for my whole life (and really remembering all the games since 2004), it is kind of surreal to be actually accepted. And I certainly have witnessed the reach of Michigan, this past summer I was in Argentina and sure enough one day I hear a nice, loud "Go Blue!" while proudly displaying a Michigan sweatshirt. I've been expecting to get in, but actually getting is an unbelievably great feeling. I've been a fan for a while but now I will be able to know truly how great it is to be a Michigan Wolverine!

accepted. It was Michigan or bust for me, no other applications and I told nobody. My mom cried and I'm still not sure if it was because her oldest was going away or she was shocked that I had applied and was accepted. Now I have a 16 year old niece with the same Michigan or bust attitude. May she have her day of joy.

I do recruiting for two prominent Michigan high schools and write meet with applicants and write recommendations two of my favorite kids got in today and I'm thrilled for them. A couple got deferred too. If any of you readers are one of the deferred, don't panic. The early acceptance wave I December usually only fills about half the class so there are still a lot of acceptances out there to be had. Deferment is not wait list. Way different. Like I said, half the entering class each year was deferred initially. Don't freak. And for all of you who were accepted, congratulations. You'll love it. Send in your deposit and start planning your fall

I feel for those kids who are deferred, especially those who were really close to getting in. These will be the longest two months of their lives. I will pass on your info to my daughter to encourage her classmates who just missed out and are pretty down right now.Lots more pressure with social media now - everyone knows everthing!

First, congrats to OP and to the other bursting-with-pride MGoParents and their early decision accepted offspring.  I HAVE JOINED YOUR RANKS!!!!!!  Son is over the moon to be third generation in a family of Michigan men and women.  He didn't apply to any other school.

Second, for those receiving deferrals, please don't despair, and counsel your kids not to despair, but to keep their noses to the grindstone.  Grades for this semester could matter.  Schedule a visit with an admissions counselor if you hadn't done so previously.

About to start my 4th semester here, and will honestly say coming here was the best decision of my life. Nothing can beat this school (except harbaugh.. Harbaugh can do anything)

I don't think I would get in today, though my wife would. But my kids have worked their tails off since the start of junior high and they have truly earned their way in. That's what makes me so proud, that they showed those key Wolverine traits of earnest hard work while never giving up. GO BLUE!!!

Congrats, . Maybe you can have your daughter contact admission and tell them HER acceptance of them is dependent on Harbough coming.

I remember my acceptance arrived on October 7,1972. I guess they don't have rolling admissions anymore. The letter was printed with a dot matrix printer and tractor feed holes on the sides. One of the best days of my life.

So she could burn that letter like Kyle Kalis! ... I got accepted six years after you but also in early October. It was such a huge relief and then I partied like a pro my senior high school year, especially since the drinking age was 17 in Canada.

My daughter also got accepted at MSU, who did a great job recruiting her, and is a much different school from the 70's and 80's MSU I knew. I knew she was UM bound though when her password for the MSU admissions system was "Stauskas".

something else we have in common Zoltan!

I applied in early Sept. of 78 and got my acceptance a week later.  Not sure I'd even get in today given the current profiles.  My kid has been sweating it out with 3.93, all AP classes,  and 31 ACT composite.

Though a long time ago, I still remember the thrill, so happy for my son, biased as hell but he is such a good kid.

Receiving that thick fedex envelope from Michigan was one of the best days of my life. My mom cried, my dad jumped and yelled in excitement.

Go blue young Wolverines, go blue!

Got accepted to the College of Engineering today! Also, minor correction to those calling this round early decision: Michigan does early action, not early decision. Early decision is binding, and Michigan' early admissions is nonbinding.

Damnit, just skimming through this thread has me envious of those who will be undergrads at Michigan soon. For me it was an experience I couldn't have enjoyed more. There's never another time in life quite like those 4 years, which go by very fast.

Of the people here with a son, daughter, friend or relative heading to UM soon, a good piece of advice to give: always try to step out of your comfort zone and explore with an open mind the many unique opportunities and experiences the University and Ann Arbor have to offer.
