OT- Condor gets loose at a hockey game
The Bakersfield Condors decided it would be a good idea to have an actual condor on the ice before the game. Deadspin has video of the hilarity that ensued when the condor tried to escape.

Meh . . . I'm only impressed by peregrine falcons.

...making the scenes from "Slap Shot" seem like high society since 1988.

At first I thought this said Condom lol

I processed it as "candor" on the first, superficial look. Either situation was a WTF, so it was sort of a "wash." I'm glad the players were smart enough to get out of the way.

There are actual comments from the handler under the video too - I guess he cracked four ribs on one of the attempts to retrieve the condor, so hopefully he recovers quickly.
Still, it was pretty funny to watch as the bird basically does its best "I'm out!" and heads straight for the locker room.

for stuff like this

Stupid to bring a bird like that in there plus not having it properly tethered to the trainer. I only hope the poor bird wasn't hurt.

This wasn't fucking funny at all, that bird has no business there. The idiots laughing about it are what I think is wrong with humanity. As the top species we're supposed to be better than that. As Michigan fans we're definitely supposed to be better than this video. That bird could have easily been killed and for what?
February 10th, 2013 at 5:25 PM ^
Killed by what exactly?? That bird was in no danger what so ever in that arena. Way to overreact.

When the guy carrying it falls and allegedly breaks his ribs he could have easily crushed the bird. Slipping on the ice it could have broken something which usually animals don't come back from like us. Hardly overreacting. That animal never should have been in that position.

Considering those birds nearly went extinct being in an arena couldn't be any more dangerous for it than being in the wild. The chances of it being crushed would be about the same odds as someone getting hit by a bus.

Those are terrible odds!
February 10th, 2013 at 11:31 PM ^
Wow, we are really becoming wussies. That bird wasn't in any danger. It would have a better chance of being "rescued" by an animal rights activist and stuck in a cage to die.

... but it's also funny as hell.

I was sitting in the first row at a bird show at Parrot Jungle Island in Miami when an Andean Condor flew down to the stage and hit me in the head. Knocked my hat right off. Rough way to become part of the show.

A solid business disaster recovery plan can mean the difference between your company’s survival or closing its doors. Even a few days of down time can mean millions of dollars lost.
