OT- College laxers use most drugs
Read this article, it was pretty interesting, being a lacrosse player it doesent suprise me being in the culture and all

no surprise at all. sports players actually use more drugs than the average kid. at least thats been my exsperience and lacrosse takes the cake, no doubt.

I would have to assume most lacrosse players are from rather high end up-bringings' as many high schools do not even have lacrosse programs. Mine sure didn't....

I'm wondering where the lacross narcotics use would stack up against other 'upper class' sports, ala tennis, golf, crew, etc.
January 19th, 2012 at 4:48 PM ^
Hey is that me?
January 19th, 2012 at 3:59 PM ^
That's pretty crazy, but I wish there were stats comparing them to the average college population, even though that's unfeasible
January 19th, 2012 at 4:13 PM ^
BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
January 19th, 2012 at 4:16 PM ^
FWIF, pretty much every lax player I knew in high school used drugs. I can only imagine that behavior carries over into college.
January 19th, 2012 at 7:59 PM ^
I played lacrosse in high school and at Michigan, and I don't do drugs, so it's not really worth shit.
January 19th, 2012 at 10:31 PM ^
Dude that's not the way group data works
January 19th, 2012 at 4:19 PM ^
Jerome Simpson (the flip guy) was indicted on drug trafficking charges. How dumb do you have to be to have it sent to your house?
January 19th, 2012 at 4:33 PM ^
It was a mistake, he meant to send it to Sam Hurd.
January 19th, 2012 at 4:21 PM ^
Yeah. They always seem pretty.... "lax."
January 19th, 2012 at 4:27 PM ^
Not surprising at all. guys i knew on my hs team and at UM all partied pretty hard. Only saw any narcotic use 2-3 times in college but def alcohol and weed. Serious question though, what is the rate among 'normal' college students. Can't tell me the number of people who have alcohol in college is small
January 19th, 2012 at 4:36 PM ^
There's a lot of money in the lax bro community. Where there is money there is often drugs, so no suprise here.
January 19th, 2012 at 4:49 PM ^
I think we could safely put Lax as no. 2 if ultimate frisbee were recognized in the same athletic category.
January 19th, 2012 at 5:03 PM ^
Well, if you want to go there, I'd put Disc Golf in front of Ultimate.
January 19th, 2012 at 5:08 PM ^
Does anyone disc golf sober?
January 20th, 2012 at 3:58 PM ^
I no longer partake in the "smoking" aspect of the game, but I would agree a day on the course is not the same without a bomber of Avery's Maharaja to enjoy. Unlike ultimate, Disc golfers have the ability to partake in their drug of choice during the activity.

with the partying when they aren't training for a meet
January 20th, 2012 at 12:01 AM ^
Michael Phelps, for sure.
January 19th, 2012 at 5:04 PM ^
Duh. You arent a bro if you don't
January 19th, 2012 at 5:59 PM ^
D3 lacrosse is filled with so much talent, in theory, because so many east coast affluent student athletes that play lacrosse no they can bro out like no other. the state of Maryland has zero d2 schools and countless d3 schools many of which have a NCAA lacrosse program. In d3 you rarely get drug tested, same with d2. Personally I got tested more times by my athletic department than the NCAA. And you can only practice 20 hours a week in d3. Laxbrochill brah

Man this really frustrates me. I'm a high school lacrosse player and all those "lax bro" kids really give the hard working ones who practice all year round a bad reputation.
I know many more football players at my high school (in Michigan) that smoke drugs than lacrosse players...
January 19th, 2012 at 11:19 PM ^
Football players at your school smoke drugs? Are they on crack?
January 19th, 2012 at 9:26 PM ^
This is either a lousy article or a lousy study (or both). The only indicator of frequency/severity of use is at the very end, stating the percentage that smoked a cigarette in the last 12 months. That tells you nothing about how many actually smoke with any regularity, and I would assume that the rest of the findings are also based on use in the last 12 months. Much like with cigarettes, there's a huge difference between having one drink in the last 12 months vs. drinking regularly vs. having an alcohol problem. If that was the only question asked then there are pretty much no conclusions at all to be drawn from this.
Last time I heard about a somewhat meaningful study, some years ago it was about problem drinking, and for men's sports it was: 1) swimming, 2) hockey, and 3) soccer.

i'm pretty sure even one-time coke use is still not a very common thing, so you might be being a bit too dismissive. but i'm suspicious of the self-reporting. if lax players are typically better off, they might be more likely to admit to what they're doing for a variety of reasons (feeling invincible, having other salient options for a career, etc.).
January 19th, 2012 at 10:10 PM ^
Wait, what? This is shocking!

(bursts into laughter)

My jaw fell to the floor when I read this......college students smoking weed and snorting coke? Are they also have premarital sex? I don't get why people expect them to be any different than most other college students.
January 20th, 2012 at 1:41 AM ^
Right... because the normal college student snorts coke.

I am a former collegiate lacrosse player and I had a t-shirt when I was in college that said: We were havin' a couple of beers and a lacrosse game broke out. I wish I still had that. I think a lacrosstitute stole it. Damn her.
