OT: Clemson rushes court....after NIT win....over Belmont....
In a game where Clemson was favored....
I completely understood Robert Morris rushing against Kentucky. It's okay if it's a small school. But a team in the ACC should not be doing this.

I gotta at least give some credit to a student body THIS excited over an NIT win.
Or feel pitty for them
Or appreciate their collective exuberant sarcasm

I pity "pitty"

It's pity, you fool...

NIT Champs of 2006! Go Blue.

this quickly?

Never forget. Be glad we're passed that point but never forget.

I went to every home NIT game the year we won it. If we rushed the court after a win then I suppressed the memory of it. Getting excited over a nail biter in the NIT is cool (i.e. the overtime ND win), rushing the court in an NIT game you are favored in....it just takes away from the whole point of rushing the court IMO. It's supposed to be for a big win. This does not qualify.
I guess the rushing the floor has finally jumped the shark now with an NIT win over a Belmont team!
Cannot knock them for generating fun. Go Tigers
I mean I'm all for being excited and having fun but you think that the Clemson faithful could have found something better to be excited about.
As rushing the court sarcastically?
In 1979, Wisconsin played at Sparty in football. After a game won by MSU 56-3, Wisconsin students rushed the field and tore down the goal posts, chanting "We scored first!"
and sat in a section surrounded by Wisconsin students. I have to admit it was one of the funnest games (football aside) I have ever been to thanks to the Badger students. Not just because they were launching water balloons onto the field either (I don't recall anyone getting kicked out but couldn't swear by it.)
I should probably mention I grew up in Lansing and was in junior high at the time. Kirk Gibson was on that Sparty team, fwiw. They were nailed for NCAA violations following that season...
I say rush the court after every win. Carpe Diem or whatever.

Yes. And nothing's better than a guy celebrating a dunk with a yowl even while his team is down 30. Just looks awesome. /s
The last two spots will be determined tonight on ESPN2.
Visiting Louisiana Tech is leading Florida State 53-48 w/ 12 min left, 2nd half.
Cal visits SMU at 9PM EST
For the CBI Champion, instead of "One Shining Moment" there is a farting track played in the background of the highlights.
BTW, PSU lost their CBI Quarterfinal to Siena.
Can get people to do strange things.
rushing the floor should b done once every top 5 win or conference championship. Rushing the court for a trip to the final four in the NIT what a joke! This is why they'll never be duke or unc
AFAIC, the reason that Clemson will "never be Duke or UNC" is because Clemson boosters spend all of their money on football players.
I don't believe that anymore. A school can b good at both bball and football I don't see how either program affects the other as long they have relatively equal funding. OSU has been a powerhouse football and bball program for 10+ years. MSU has done it for 3 years. Florida, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, oregon all have been able to have stability in both football and bball and win at the highest level. The whole bball or football school idea is crap
I usually say let the kids have fun, but Jesus man show some self-respect.
Belmont alumni here. I was watching the game live. First, we had that game, let it slip away. Second, our Soph guard was lining up to shake hands after and the camera got a great shot of him sarcastically smiling while watching the students rush the floor, "WTF??"
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I appreciate their level of excitement, but come on, it's Belmont in the quarters of the NIT. If it were flipped, I don't think the Belmont students would have rushed the floor.
Belmont's probably been to more tourneys than Clemson--at least as of late.
I have to think now that if a fanbase is going to storm the court after a win in the quarterfinals of the NIT, then there may very well be a push to consider stopping the practice on principle alone at this point. This might open the door to a team's fans storming the court after a "moral victory" now. Clearly, the practice is being abused.
Not quite the same, but back in high school soccer, we did have some team celebrate and take team pictures on our field after they tied us.
i see no problem with it.
Full Disclosure: I "storm the court" in my living room whenever I get the answer to final jeopardy correct.

I do too, but that's never happened.
I would like to get "Hatin' Ass Spurrier"'s opinion on this one.
I guess they all forgot about Virginia for a moment and celebrated being the only ACC basketball team left in a March tourney, lmao.
Almost the same title as this reddit thread haha

And who cares? Let the kids have fun
Not the first time something on reddit has been reported here
March 26th, 2014 at 10:37 PM ^
That's rather frightening how close that is.
I've never visited reddit before other than when they were tormenting the nutjobs from Amy's Baking Company.
Who cares? Glad they're enjoying themselves.
The South Carolina fans are making fun of Clemson for it. There a lots of fun twitter battles out there that read something like:
"So sad...have some self respect. I guess you guys have to get excited about something that you're at least decent at."
"why weren't you watching carolina pl....oh that's right, their season is over."
"sounds familiar after not 1 but 2, 3, 4, 5 in a row, doesn't it?"
"You mean watching us play in BCS games?"
It's pretty funny down here.
I would much rather beat Clemson every year like SC has been than go to a BCS game.
It's amazing how badly pissed off people get when students rush the court or field. Why the fuck do you care so much, OP?
March 26th, 2014 at 10:12 PM ^
...it was the NIT championship game against anybody....but it is the quarterfinals of the NIT against Belmont. Oh how I long for the days of rushing the court/field when you beat #1 ranked Duke or Ohio State for a birth in the Rose Bowl with the National Championship on the line. The good ol days!
March 26th, 2014 at 10:34 PM ^
The funny thing is that there is more anger in your post than there was in anything I posted in this thread.
I like the rushing the court/field thing--when it calls for it.
Beating #1 when you aren't ranked or "shouldn't have won"? Perfect. Beating a rival in football after years of struggling? Okay.
A win over a mid-major in an NIT Quarterfinal game? Not so much.
I'm laughing/shaking my head at clemson.
I don't have a problem with this considering that, as this article points out, Clemson has far exceeded expectations this season, having been picked to finish 14th out of 15 in the ACC and then going on to win 10 conference games. Why not celebrate an unexpectedly good season at the end of the final home game?
Consider also that Clemson has a sorry history in basketball, having won just one conference title (1990) and having never reached the NCAA tourney Final Four. They did make it to the Elite Eight once, but that was way back in 1980. They haven't made the Sweet Sixteen since 1997.
mutter "but we're just Belmont" and laugh. Enough said.
March 26th, 2014 at 10:08 PM ^
I dunno. I think if I was Belmont I'd feel pretty fucking badass if somebody's fan base rushed the floor after beating me.
"That's right motherfucker - you got us THIS time but that aint happening again. This is BELMONT!"
Everyone of the Belmont players will have a great story to tell their kids........
March 26th, 2014 at 11:28 PM ^
That sounds unlikely
March 26th, 2014 at 10:37 PM ^
I've got no problem with it. Rush the court/field whenever you want, win or lose, as far as I'm concerned. I wish I would have rushed more courts in my day, even if it was all by myself.

Clemson students rushed the English department when a professor did some research and came to the conclusion that she'd discovered the true identity of Harriet beecher stowe's uncle tom.
http://features.clemson.edu/creative-services/faculty/2013/clemson-engl…
they'll rush anywhere over anything... I know. I'm a student there...

We're Belmont, man.
