I went to every home NIT game the year we won it. If we rushed the court after a win then I suppressed the memory of it. Getting excited over a nail biter in the NIT is cool (i.e. the overtime ND win), rushing the court in an NIT game you are favored in....it just takes away from the whole point of rushing the court IMO. It's supposed to be for a big win. This does not qualify.

and sat in a section surrounded by Wisconsin students.  I have to admit it was one of the funnest games (football aside) I have ever been to thanks to the Badger students. Not just because they were launching water balloons onto the field either (I don't recall anyone getting kicked out but couldn't swear by it.)

I should probably mention I grew up in Lansing and was in junior high at the time. Kirk Gibson was on that Sparty team, fwiw. They were nailed for NCAA violations following that season...

rushing the floor should b done once every top 5 win or conference championship. Rushing the court for a trip to the final four in the NIT what a joke! This is why they'll never be duke or unc

I don't believe that anymore. A school can b good at both bball and football I don't see how either program affects the other as long they have relatively equal funding. OSU has been a powerhouse football and bball program for 10+ years. MSU has done it for 3 years. Florida, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, oregon all have been able to have stability in both football and bball and win at the highest level. The whole bball or football school idea is crap

Belmont alumni here. I was watching the game live. First, we had that game, let it slip away. Second, our Soph guard was lining up to shake hands after and the camera got a great shot of him sarcastically smiling while watching the students rush the floor, "WTF??"

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I appreciate their level of excitement, but come on, it's Belmont in the quarters of the NIT. If it were flipped, I don't think the Belmont students would have rushed the floor.

I have to think now that if a fanbase is going to storm the court after a win in the quarterfinals of the NIT, then there may very well be a push to consider stopping the practice on principle alone at this point. This might open the door to a team's fans storming the court after a "moral victory" now. Clearly, the practice is being abused.

The South Carolina fans are making fun of Clemson for it. There a lots of fun twitter battles out there that read something like:
"So sad...have some self respect. I guess you guys have to get excited about something that you're at least decent at."

"why weren't you watching carolina pl....oh that's right, their season is over."

"sounds familiar after not 1 but 2, 3, 4, 5 in a row, doesn't it?"

"You mean watching us play in BCS games?"

It's pretty funny down here.

The funny thing is that there is more anger in your post than there was in anything I posted in this thread.

I like the rushing the court/field thing--when it calls for it.

Beating #1 when you aren't ranked or "shouldn't have won"? Perfect. Beating a rival in football after years of struggling? Okay.

A win over a mid-major in an NIT Quarterfinal game? Not so much.

I'm laughing/shaking my head at clemson.

I don't have a problem with this considering that, as this article points out, Clemson has far exceeded expectations this season, having been picked to finish 14th out of 15 in the ACC and then going on to win 10 conference games. Why not celebrate an unexpectedly good season at the end of the final home game?

Consider also that Clemson has a sorry history in basketball, having won just one conference title (1990) and having never reached the NCAA tourney Final Four. They did make it to the Elite Eight once, but that was way back in 1980. They haven't made the Sweet Sixteen since 1997.

I dunno.  I think if I was Belmont I'd feel pretty fucking badass if somebody's fan base rushed the floor after beating me.

"That's right motherfucker - you got us THIS time but that aint happening again.  This is BELMONT!"

Everyone of the Belmont players will have a great story to tell their kids........

I've got no problem with it.  Rush the court/field whenever you want, win or lose, as far as I'm concerned.  I wish I would have rushed more courts in my day, even if it was all by myself.
