OT: Class filled with UNC football players under investigation
Saw this on CBS Sports' website this morning. UNC can't seem to stay out of the negative limelight lately. Regardless of the verdict the investigation reaches, it makes you wonder how prevalant, if at all, this kind of thing is in college athletics.
University records obtained by the Raleigh News and Observer reveal that one of those classes - AFAM 280: Blacks in North Carolina - was enrolled exclusively with football players.

More like, lemonlight. Am I right? Ehh, ehh...
You think we'd at least be better at football.
With all the nonsense that has gone on with the football program you have to wonder how clean the basketball program is since they're actually, you know, good. The only thing worse than cheating is cheating and losing I always say.

I don't think basketball runs into the same problems as much, since, if an athlete wants to be done with college after a year or just not go, he can go straight to the NBA. Not so much in football, so regardless of desire (or sometimes, ability/intelligence) the athletes are forced to go through at least a couple years of college.
As far as I knew during my time there, the basketball players were taking real classes. Easy A's sometimes, sure (what college student hasn't?), but they were at least legitimate. I even had Wes Miller in one of my mid-level Math classes.
Yeah, well, except of course for the line (emphasis mine):
"Other records show that football and basketball players made up a majority of the enrollments of nine particularly suspect classes in which the professors listed as instructors have denied involvement, and have claimed that signatures were forged on records related to them."
"Last month it was announced that football players made up more than a third of enrollments in suspect classes at North Carolina investigated for academic fraud."
This Julius Nyang'oro did everything humanly possible in his role to keep players eligible in 2011 so that they could amass a 7-6 season under Everett Withers, who admittedly was only an interim coach. Commendable effort, but alas, when you're already being investigated for academic fraud, I think that the last thing that you want to see as a university are more allegations of academic fraud, especially when you have UNC's general academic reputation. It will be interesting to see where this one goes.

is nice. I don't live there, but I'm there frequently. Milltown and the Crunkleton are my favorite establishments. Milltown is in Carrboro, which is pretty much Chapel Hill unless you're on foot. The Cat's Cradle is there too, which is an ok venue. The acts there are great, the layout and sound aren't ideal however. Its like NC's answer to the 40 watt in Athens or the Tabernacle in Atlanta. You'll enjoy Chapel Hill. Lots of honeys too if you're single.
