OT: Chris Henry pronounced dead

Submitted by gnarles woodson on
Mike and Mike just reported that Chris Henry has died. Terrible story, it was looking like he had begun to turn his life around.

I agree, after getting off to a troubled start it really looked like he was beginning to move in the right direction. I think he had a couple young children...that stinks. May they remember their father as a gifted athlete who was learning to become a man when he passed.

with some poorly-timed, indirect Rich-Rod quotes.
Henry repeatedly got in trouble at West Virginia, where former Mountaineers coach Rich Rodriguez told him that he was an embarrassment to himself and the program.
Maybe I'm just accustomed to the Freep and it's one-paper war, but this does not seem like a particular positive light in which to cast a guy who was a likely contributor to Henry's eventual turn-around...though I'm glad to know Rich Rod didn't coddle him. I guess quotes referring to someone as an "embarrassment," printed less than twelve hours after that person's passing, leaves a bad taste in my mouth regardless of the context. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/121609-Bengals-Henry?GT1=39002

Such a tragedy. It seemed like Mr. Henry completely turned his life around in the last year and was finally on the right track. Life can be so cruel sometimes. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

Since you obviously endourse "saying it like it is" that is just fucking disrespectful. Perhaps people aren't saying what you did because they actually follow the sport and know that he has seemed to change his ways since he got in trouble last. hmmmm.....imagine that, a guy learning from his mistakes. That happens you know.

I don't think anal rape has any place on this board, joking or not. It is extremely offensive and inappropriate, especially in a thread expressing condolences and thoughts of prayer for a recently deceased and his family and friends. I can't believe I just had to write that.

"Using a definition of rape that includes forced vaginal, oral, and anal sex, the National Violence Against Women Survey found that 1 of 6 U.S. Women and 1 of 33 U.S. men has experienced an attempted or completed rape as a child and/or adult. According to estimates, approximately 1.5 million women and 834,700 men are raped and/or physically assaulted annually by an intimate partner in the United States. (Tjaden, P. & Thoennes, N. (1998, November). A Prevalence, Incidence, and Consequences of Violence Against Women: Findings From the National Violence Against Women Survey, @ p. 2 & 5. Research in Brief. (1997, November). Criminal Victimization in 1996, Changes 1995-1996 with Trends 1993-1996, NCJ-165812, p.3. Washington, DC: Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Department of Justice.)"

You have to remember that you can not judge on here. Forgetting that Chris jumped into the back of a moving truck then tried to jump out of it at god knows what speed (not knowing if he was impaired or not), his death is a tragedy because he was a sports star who has ties to RichRod and WV. His past indiscretions get a pass because he was a football player. And a sports blog is not the right place to exhibits facts that might upset those who might worship football players a little too much. The key thing to remember is that those that don't want you to judge will end up judging you. It's the hypocrite in them. Get use it to. Have a wonderful day!!!

So, when you pass, everyone should just talk about the bad things that you did in your life. Is this the way you think it should be? Regardless of what he did in his past, he deserves a "pass" when he loses his life in a tragic accident. I don't understand how you can be so cynical about something like this. This guy was not a saint and neither are you. Neither am I or any other person on this board. Nothing gives you the right to judge how valuable his life was or wasn't. Think about what it's like to be on the other side of the fence. How would you like to read something like your post, if it pertained to someone in your family? Get over yourself.

Anytime a young man leaves a family behind too early, it is a tragedy. And right now isn't the time to judge anyone. It is a time to feel sorrow for those he leaves behind and the potential that he was beginning to reach. This happens whether or not people are athletes. It doesn't indicate "worship:" only consideration and tact. I see no hypocrisy here: only class. RIP Chris Henry and condolences to his family.

Just as he was turning his life around too. He was just starting to "Get It." My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and the Bengal's organization. R.I.P. Chris Henry

I didn't follow his career, knowing him only through the misdeeds he commited, but like has been mentioned I have recently heard that he had been making progress as a man. Isn't that ironic, in his troubled past he meanders his way but now that he's getting himself together...Father, please have mercy on the soul of Chris Henry, provide him salvation in the kingdom to come, and bring comfort to his family and friends... Amen

Honestly, all this "Hopefully he will be remembered for the person he was trying to become" attitude is shameful. Why do some of you need to keep mentioning the fact that he made some mistakes along with your condolences? Sanctimonious much? I am sure there was a lot of good in who he was, no matter when we are talking about, no matter where he was going. All lives are journeys of progress (or should be). A man, father, son, partner, teammate has died, and it is a great loss. There is no need to keep pointing out the fact that he made some bad choices. We all have.

Well put Brendan. I'm a Bengals fan, and seeing the growth in his maturity and his work ethic from up close was something I came to be very proud of. I pray for his family and children.

That is terrible news. This already is a bad day for me, as my grandfather passed away 17 years ago. I'm still not over it. The one year anniversary of my grandmother's death is coming up on the 23rd. Not looking forward to Christmas this year.

"Link to Rich Rodriquez Turns Deadly for Chris Henry" In all honesty, I am not to make light of the situation, which is obviously a sad one. EDIT: I felt bad about this post the second I put it out there, but I won't change it so that you can neg-bang away, if you would like.

This is obviously bad news for anyone who follows the NFL and my heart goes out to his family, friends, and teammates. The events of the accident that caused his fatal injuries is just wierd. I will be very interested in how all this plays out. I've heard that Charlotte police already have homicide detectives investigating the accident.
