Sparty and Criminal Behavior

Not sure what his association with the school is, no information on his wiki page.  Just found it hilarious in the face of all of the other criminal, alleged or otherwise, activities in Spartyville lately.

He also had on a Spartan hat at some event about a year ago.  I don't really know if he has any connection, but he's probably a hoops fan and just follows our final four runs.

Not to hijack the thread, but why was the Tressel resignation thread brought down?  Baseless rumors?  Overparanoid mod?  I saw it when I logged in, clicked on it, and it was gone.  So I did not get a chance to live the soap opera yet today.

Basically the guy put it up as fact originally, then backed off when asked for sources or links and just said that he had sources...if you've been reading longer than you've been a member you can probably imagine how that went, for a topic this big.

If not, give it about a week of reading regularly and I'll promise you'll see the fireworks come out at least once.

Eh, after all the talk from after The Game I'll wait until Yahoo! or Brian tell me something.

Also, I think it's going to wait until Gee and Smith get some sort of an idea how misguided they were with their two game suspension and 1/16 salary fine for lying to the NCAA before Tressel is forced to step down. He may never even step down; he might just sit and wait for the show-cause to come through.

Ever see the South Park episode with Jared from Subway? Butters is grounded and goes out and Cartman pretends to be him when his parents call to check, and says a bunch of terrible things to them? Well, Cartman waits for Butter's parents to get home and sits on a lawn chair with popcorn while Butters is mercilessly beat by his parents.

It's gonna be just like that, except we'll be the ones in the lawn chairs with the popcorn.

To be fair, I have heard similar rumblings through the grapevine.

The family of a friend of mine is on the in with a high ranking OSU Athletic Department person, and they discussed that Tressel is sick of the NCAA, likely owing to the hypocrisy he perceives in the idea of not paying players but profiting off of them. In that respect, I'm with Tressel (brb gotta take a shower. Okay I'm back). The friend relayed to me that he is planning to call it quits soon. This was around the time of the Gator Bowl (we were in Jacksonville when she told me all this info), so it was before all this news broke about him covering up the e-mails.

As far as that conversation goes, it makes perfect sense that he covered up the e-mails. Why would he tell an organization he sees as hypocritical? I don't think he was right in what he did, but I don't think the NCAA is right in what it does either; the Fab 5 Documentary brought light upon that: ie, the "Fab 5" sneakers etc. It really is ridiculous how different organizations profit off these athletes, who are only students. It really shouldn't be allowed. Companies like Adidas shouldn't be allowed to market that shoe as such if they have an affiliation with a University athletic department. My opinion.

Even I get a little frustrated when I walk into the MDen and the only jerseys for sale are 16, 5, 7, 12, 2, 20, etc....

Going back to Tressel, I think the reason OSU's punishment was so light was to keep him around (think of it as a peace offering, and also an opportunity: he doesn't have to leave the program before he can reclaim his "honor" and "respectability"). They also don't want him going elsewhere, certainly.

I've been a member for longer.  Yay for stupid alter ego post... obviously this guy didn't have any credibility around here?  Bring a bartender on the OSU campus, I know many things that are pertinent to these blogs that I do not share.  Maybe he just couldn't comment on how he knew.

I can say with whatever confidence is assumed by the next few words, that a friend of a friend who works in the OSU athletic department said that Tressel's head was not on the block, and some pretty serious NCAA sanctions would have to come up, specifically a harsh show cause before OSU would even think about having him resign.

None that I know of. If you've been a member as long as you have, I'm sure you can guess how out of control that thread got.

I think what you say actually makes more sense, Occam's Razor and all. Hard to believe the whole presser was a big April Fools joke or something.

You haven't committed yourself to the idea that Tressel hates the NCAA. He does. He wants out because of the NCAA. And let's face it, who can blame him for that? They're hypocrites. Players can't accept any benefits, but various companies can sell paraphernalia relating to student athletes? Bull.

Edit: Reread your post; realized you said OSU wouldn't think of having him resign. I think you're right there, but I think Tressel does want to retire.

not on a MSU website.  /obvious

Also according to the Official MGOBLOG FAQ, found in a Menubar near you, I'm well within the realm of OT possibility and maybe even ON Topic with a little stretching.

What's the offtopic policy?

In the offseason, offtopic posts are tolerated. During football season they are discouraged and may be subject to removal depending on how alert the moderators are. What counts as on- and off- topic?

ONTOPIC

  • Anything Michigan sports related
  • Anything related to other Big Ten teams or upcoming opponents
  • Stuff about the blog itself
  • University of Michigan topics that don't relate to sports

GRAY AREA

  • College sports in general
  • Ann Arbor

UNWELCOME, KTHX

  • Politics

OFFTOPIC

  • Pro sports of any variety
  • Everything else

We will let pro sports topics slide even during football season but "everything else" posts are likely to get the axe.

Fuck that noise. That's a Maurice Taylor jersey/throwback, it appears. I blame Traylor/Taylor/Bullock far more than even CWebb when it comes to the sanctions, as by that time, they were specifically told not to associate with Ed Martin, with even pictures of him shown to them, and they did it anyway. It was their transgressions that kept us within the 5 year statute of limitations.

It also probably doesn't help that their teams never lived up to their potential by a long shot, in my opinion.

I must be out of touch with pop culture, because the title of this thread made me think "Why is the guy who writes Smartfootball the counsel for MSU? Don't they have their own lawyers?"

Last I heard on the radio, 'Good Morning America' and ABC aren't pressing charges against Brown, despite him going all mental again and throwing a chair through a window.

No punishment for being a jackass sounds very Dantonio-like.  So I see the connection Brown has with MSU.
