OT: Chip Kelly and the Oregon Situation

Submitted by Steve Lorenz on
Anybody have any opinions on what looks like some major inconsistencies as far as player punishment goes? Anybody as surprised as I was to know that Masoli spent time in prison during high school for armed robbery?

I'm not really referring to us at all. Just Oregon. They have had seven players or something arrested within the last month. The ones who are off the team are non-contributors while LaMichael James beats his girlfriend and is being given the benefit of the doubt as far as the program taking every precaution necessary before absolutely having to kick him off the team.

unrelated to Blount situation. Blount paid for it and it was about time that he got unsuspended. The difference between MSU and Oregon is Blount actually served suspension whereas Winston did not(sure he spent time in jail over the summer but he didn't even finish out the term of sentence).

It was not about time Blount got unsuspended, he deserved to be kicked off the team. It seems like everyone just remembers the initial punch to the Boise St player, and not the 10 minutes after that where Blount was trying to fight the crowd and get past the security. That was not a momentary lapse in judgment. And I believe Winston did have to sit for the first 2 games, not that it was adequate

I never really gave Oregon much thought until I moved to the Pacific NW in 2005. Didn't take me long to discover that Oregon fans are, generally speaking, pretty much in the same league as obnoxious Spartan fans (i.e., always banging the "nobody gives us the respect we deserve" drum, the kind who take more pleasure in seeing their opponents struggle than in doing well themselves, etc.). I just hope once the UM rebuilding project is complete we can get another shot at Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

Based on the large amount of time I have spent in the PacNW, I completely agree with your post. I have gotten a ton of shit over the years for being a Michigan fan. And any success only makes them worse (also similar to sparty). Like I've always said, if you wanna be considered an elite program and get your respect than act like an elite program. Act like you've been there before. Until they do they'll just be another mid-level program with an occasional good season in my eyes.
