It's not the worst idea, actually.  Petrino has always been able to coach (though there are some serious questions about his recruiting chops after Louisville's and Arkansas' collapses after Petrino left) and he's certainly available.  Louisville might even be able to convince themselves that this time around Petrino could be interested in sticking around at an ACC job.

I don't think he'd be my first choice, but they could do worse.

As you know, I'm not a fan of RR but I think it'd be a mistake for him to leave Arizona (esp for Louisville). The Ville is a step down from Arizona and zona has only those expectations set by Rich's performance thus far. The bar might be higher at Louisville given the last couple years there. They're happy with him at zona; he should build on that and stay put (assuming that the option to leave exists).

Just where I'm at with it.  Fine by me if he ends up as the Texas version of Saban, but I don't see him doing much better than Brown. Still, good to see such a huge, traditional, rich school hiring an African American coach.

Pat Forde actually had a good point(!!) when he noted that Strong hated all of the booster-meeting, speaking, glad-handing, etc. at Louisville and that the administration struggled to get him to participate in any boosting events. Texas is an extremely political job (like Michigan and Notre Dame) and I wonder if there won't be a culture war as soon as the team stops winning. (He ain't a Texas Man!)

U "really" don't get why most Texas fans don't like this hire? That surprises me...you are not new here. Maybe u were out of the country for the last few "Texas is interested in...(Saban, Harbaugh, Sumlin, Briles, Mora, Fisher, Malzahn, etc.") threads. Or the last few Michigan coaching searches.

Saban=Better coach, wife didnt want to leave 'Bama. Wifey runs shit.

Harbaugh=Better coach, coaching in the Tundra as we speak. To wait is risky, especially for NFL HCs who almost never leave the top spot where they're doing well to...you get it.

Sumlin=Maybe a better coach, probably not, coaches at Texas' hated arch rival who also happens to play in the SEC. Obvi.

Briles=LOL. Seriously?

Mora=Maybe a better coach, probably not. No BCS wins, just getting going out there in LA.

Fisher=They thought they could get Fisher? Again, LOL.

Malzahn= Probably a better coach, and the only one out of your little list that is at all realistic.

Judging other people is something I'm really trying to eradicate and something that works for me is to ask questions. The only question I have for you is why do you believe that adultery is ok and that winning is more important than doing the right thing?

I don't follow . . . are you suggesting that they should have paid Strong more?  Or are you suggesting that they didn't get Saban because they low-balled him?  I doubt that was it.  I'm sure they would have given Saban whatever he wanted, but he probably just didn't want to move.

MM is a canny hire for them. He can come in and say "everything BOB told you about getting you to the NFL is true and I know because I was in the league for 30 years" while also promising to never run out on them based on an incredibly long track record of loyalty in Houston/Tennessee and his PSU roots.

Strong is a good hire for Texas because it's a win/win for the a$$holes running that place.  If Strong does well, then they can claim the credit for his hiring.  If he doesn't do well, then they can fall back on the well we didn't get the guy we wanted first excuse.  I think Charlie Strong is a hell of a coach and DC.  After the departure of Dan Mullen and Charlie Strong from Florida, Urban Meyer started having health problems.
