Rick James just slapped the shit out of him in heaven. RIP Charlie...
CHARLIE MURPHY!!!
RIP Charlie. I hope the coke in heaven is good.
...Blouses
That skit was hilarious!
I didnt see anything posted yesterday about J Geils dying. While from Boston the J. Geils band was about as Detroit as anybody else actually from Detroit. RIP both of them.
I saw a good one on this death: "Well, I guess now his blood really does 'run cold'". :-D
J Geils was the first concert I ever went to high on acid. Sad news.
RIP Charlie Murphy.
My heart just sank to the pit of my stomach.
I feel for most every loss, but the ones who make you laugh - who brought you personal happiness, ugh...beyond tough.
RIP - the man was hilarious with Chappelle's Show. Those were legendary, all-time, comedy altering, culture changing skits.
I felt the same way, rarely do celebrities deaths effect me in a serious way, the last one I can remember that really bummed me out was James Gandolfini. More recently, Don Rickles passing definitely moved the needle for me. I guess as I get older (I'm 32), the more connected I will get to them, and their passings will be felt more.
RIP Charlie
Robin Williams brought me to tears. I grew up watching him (31) and from everything everyone has ever said about him (generous, caring, genuine), his death really shook me.
None of these are ever easy. Some of them you just don't know how they will move you.
I spoke to a colleague in her early 20s yesterday that knew of the Chappelle Show but had surprisingly not seen the Charlie Murphy skits. I was so excited to share with her - that stuff was and will remain absolute gold.
Sucks to lose the laughter yet he left the world a funnier place. Bless him for it.
RIP
"What was wild was that...the guy, that look the most like, like a bitch....was gettin' all the women!"
Some of the best of Charlie:
"Things like escalated to the point where, you know, my man got too familiar and I ended up having to whip his ass man, you know, cause you know, he would step across the line. Habitually. He's a habitual line stepper."
"My brother, he's a lot more compassionate than I am, you know. We were looking at Rick getting in the limo, and as it drove off, Eddie says, "Man... Rick really needs help". I was like, "Hey man, we just gave him some help. We busted his motha fuckin' legs. I bet he won't come back and disrespect again." WRONG, WRONG... We're talkin' bout Rick James, man."
[after being beaten by Prince in a basketball game] "Challenge him, i-ight. Make sure your crew is there to witness it, cuz you just might get embarrassed."
[Prince looks on the verge of tears] "I don't know what he was crying about. He knew where he got that shirt and it certainly wasn't in the men's department."
WHY YOU LEAVE US LIKE THIS?!?!
But actually, in my opinion, Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories are among the Top 10 funniest moments in television history. Whenever I'm feeling bummed out, I watch those and still laugh maniacally as I did 14 years ago. He will be missed dearly.
Like many of you said, his segments on Chappelle's Show was some of the funniest. He will be missed. Thanks for the many laughs Charlie. RIP.
RIP Charlie Murphy!
The stuff he did on Chappelle Show will live forever, RIP Buc Nasty
Loved this guy. Total bummer : (
I didn't know he had cancer. I did see a recent picture of him and knew something bad was happening. He looked really frail. He had a hell of a life.
Wow, this just put a damper on the rest of my day. He may not have shared the same level of fame as his brother, but my god was that man funny. Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories are likely among the funniest, and possibly most influential sets of TV skits of the last 20 years.
While True Hollywood Stories will probably be his shining moment, I'll always remember him as Tyree in Mad Real World:
"Well lookee here, Chad. The entire time you're in my room, I better not catch you standing up peeing. You sit down when you pee, you understand?!"
"Get your fat ass out of here before I cut some bacon off your back."
"Whoa, you got that all wrong. I ain't have sex with Katie. Lysol had sex with Katie! I just filmed it!"
you had sex with me too".
That was funny, but like others have said True Hollywood stories are in must-watch territory.
Rick, then Prince, and now Charlie. I wonder if this is an indication of just how hard those guys partied back then...
Fuck you cancer. RIP Charlie Murphy
This really sux and especially coming on the heels of losing Don Rickles.
Lost another good one for sure. Loved him on Chappelle.
RIP Darkness.
