Even if he's back on the sidelines, I still don't think you can even pencil him in since we have no idea if he'll be in playing shape, have his touch, etc. But if he were back and in form, I might start to dream about the quarterfinals. No offense to Gooch, but I'd rather have Charlie back, since the dropoff in ability to the next best option is much greater at striker (assuming we don't list Dempsey as his "replacement"). But considering they're working out together, maybe we can have both back, plus if Jermaine Jones ever gets healthy, that's three top-tier talents we may not have been expecting to have.

This team can surprise people. We saw it last summer. Charlie, Gooch and Dempsey are all essential elements to the team, though, and without them we might not make it out of the group stage. His recovery is truly amazing. If he's indeed back to playing in France by April, I give him a good chance of playing, if not starting, by the World Cup.

I really hope he is ready to go for the WC. He provides the team with a pace that we don't really have at the striker position. I also hope that Bob Bradley makes better starting 11 decisions. I just don't want to see Ching or Connor Casey start. Here to hoping all of the players we need are healthy by WC. Also I am excited to see Jermaine Jones play for US.
