OT: CBS to have "Johnny Cam" for Bama-A&M game

Submitted by Lionsfan on

Headline says it all. CBS has decided to put a single camera on Johnny Manziel for Saturday's game.

No matter where he is and no matter what part of the game it is, we will have a shot of it,” said Craig Silver, CBS’s coordinating producer of college football, told (Richard) Deitsch. “If he is anywhere in sight of that camera, we will catch it.”

The guy is not perfect, but this is absolutely ridiculous. I can't think of any other player in recent history receiving this much scrutiny.

Deitsch's article is worth a read as there is some more detail on the process that got Manziel and CBS to this point. (LINK).

This has apparently been in the works for a while:

"Silver said CBS requested an on-camera interview with Manziel, as well as the quarterback's presence for meetings with the CBS production staff this Friday. Silver said he has been in constant contact with Texas A&M officials including coach Kevin Sumlin over the summer and classified those discussions as having been professional and productive."

He also talks about this being CBS' first game in nine months, as well as the booth at Kyle Field being high in comparison to the field. Basically, it sounds like there may be some interesting logistics / production issues as well.

That the reason Manziel won the Heisman last year was because Sumlin refused to allow him to speak to the media?

I'm not saying that he shouldn't be a kid, but he can be an egotistical jerk, and his media pretense is hurting his chance for another Heisman. Character issues and all.

Just my thought.
