OT: CBB Coaches You Would Play For

Submitted by All Day on

An interesting question posed earlier, but I'm a basketball coach so I spend most of time thinking about this question for basketball. Mine in no particular order:

Beilein

Coach K

Fred Hoiberg (though he may be coming to my Bulls soon)

Gregg Marshall

Billy Donovan

HM: Mark Few, Roy Williams, Cal/Pitino (they may be slimeballs, but if you can play you want to play for them), Shaka. Larry Krystowiak because he might be slightly insane. Rick Majerus would have been awesome.

Kim Barnes Arico Gino Auriemma Pat Summitt (in the day) Bacari Alexander ...or pretty much anyone, because if I were playing I'd be 10 years (heh!) younger

I have an unjustifiable dislike for Sean Miller.  I can't explain it and I have no basis for it.  Can anyone talk me down off this ledge or am I right?  I need help understanding this.  He seems too slick for his own good but I can't put my finger on it.  I believe I'm lumping him in my mind with Calapari and Pittino (Sr).

If I could actually in fact play basketball at a level which could not be described as "comical", I would probably go with:

1) John Beilein

2) Gregg Marshall

3) Steve Alford (just for kicks, for one game to see what that experience is like)

4) Mike Krzyzewski (not a Duke fan at all, but intellectually there would be interest due to name alone)

5) Sean Miller

1. Calapari. If your an elite recruit he is your dream coach, you get to spend a year focusing on basketball with no school responsibilities, getting plenty of spending cash, and you can get any girl at kentucky you want. But in reality I think I would be mature enough to pick Beilein becuase he builds players into the best version of themselves, but honestly I'm not sure.

John Beilein: guard oriented, put me in the NBA please, long live the 3 pointer
Sean Miller: put me in the NBA please
Fred Hoiberg: long live the 3 pointer
Dana Altman: guard oriented, long live the 3 pointer
Lon Kruger: let it rain

Brad Stevens (if he comes back)

Steve Fisher! Come on, maybe not the best coach of all-time, but the stories alone would be enough to fill up 4 years. And, he's done a great job at SDSU. A guy who I love, that is way underrated is Pat Chambers at Penn St. They never have the talent to match up with most of the Big 10, but they always compete so hard, and he seems to get more production out of less than anyone. Of course, they almost always play UM tough, but they had so many single digit losses this year. Who knows how much patient the AD will have with 2-3 win Big 10 seasons, though.
