I really question how his 1 on 1 defense will be. Because he is 6'6", everyone assumes that he is a great defender. But because he went to Syracuse, he has never had to defend someone 1 on 1 his whole college career. Wonder how he is going to fare defending the likes of Kyrie Irving or Chris Paul.

Not as high on him as a lot of others. Would have to improve on his shot and put on considerable weight. Not sure he's as defensively sound as others do; the 2-3 tends to make you look better defensively than you might be otherwise. Also seems to be a little indecisive with the ball. Passed up a lot of shots against us.

Also, dude is super ugly.

The analogy of "if someone paid you $1,000,000 to drop out of accounting school after sophomore year, you'd do it too" undersells the situation because you can be a rock star accountant until you're 80 - but you can't say the same for the NBA.

Speaking of Darius Morris, how do you compare him with MCW when DM left for NBA? DM was not short (6'4) and didn't have a great jumper, which seems to me quite like MCW.  DM didn't go in the first round, but his year supposed to be a weak draft as well.

We're also forgetting the back-end bonus of leaving early.  He will qualify as a free agent for even bigger money a year (or two) sooner, assuming he's a decent NBA player.

If a player is ready to go from a maturity and talent/skill standpoint, then it's usually a good decision to go.  The problem is too many kids are not ready before they leap.

I think this is a good move for him.  He really was a good player this season and had some outstanding defense.  He was one of the few players that really could actually slow down Burke.  He didn't tear up Michigan either, but that still shows his talent.  I expect him to have a solid career, although he might move around on an NBA roster.

Michael Carter-Williams was an early Player-of-the-Year candidate this season. His draft stock may be as high now as it ever will be, so it’s no surprise that he decided to declare for the draft. It’s way too early to tell whether he’ll have much of a career in the NBA, but since Syracuse's NCAA championship season in 2003, here’s what has happened to the guards from Syracuse who were significant contributors there:

Billy Edelin (never played in NBA; whereabouts unknown); Gerry McNamara (undrafted by NBA; played professionally briefly in Europe and in the NBDL; now an assistant coach at Syracuse); Eric Devendorf (undrafted by NBA; played briefly in NBDL; subsequent stints in New Zealand, Australia and Turkey; currently plays in Ukraine); Josh Wright (played briefly in Europe; whereabouts unknown since arrest in Utica, NY prostitution sting in 2011); Jonny Flynn (6th pick of Minnesota Timberwolves in 2009 NBA Draft; averaged 13.9 ppg in rookie season; later played briefly with Houston and Portland in NBA; All-Star this season and starting guard for Melbourne Tigers in Australian National Basketball League); Andy Rautins (38th pick in 2010 NBA Draft; played briefly for New York Knicks and in Spain; starting guard and leading scorer for Tulsa 66ers of NBDL this season; member of Team Canada); Dion Waiters (starter and second-leading scorer for Cleveland Cavaliers this season); Scoop Jardine (occasional commentator for SNY TV)

1) His friggin' house burned down 3 weeks ago.

2) He's within a year of graduating after this semester and intends to also finish his degree.
