OT: Carroll- would have never left USC for NFL had he known sanctions were coming

Yeah... right....

Since we are on the subject of deniers like Roy Williams, I saw this gem on ESPN where Carroll is clearing the air about how he was going to fix any sanctions that happened to USC, he just could not turn down the NFL that particular time. This guy sucks so bad. I found his reference of "not having anything to get us with" interesting since something was going on.

"The truth was, an opportunity came up and it was one I couldn't turn away from," Carroll told the Times. "... The NCAA came back at the university ... 'Now we're going to revisit after five years.' I had no knowledge that was coming. We thought maybe it wasn't coming because they didn't have anything to get us with. It wasn't five days, it wasn't five weeks. It was five years. Had we known that that was imminent ... I would never have been able to leave under those circumstances. When I look back now, I would have stayed there to do what we needed to do to resolve the problem."

It would be more honest if Carroll or any coach in his situation would just come clean and admit to all the shenanigans and point out how the pressure to win year-to-year, keep stadiums sold out, and ensure consistent television exposure almost necessitates a coach looking the other way when it comes to the dirtier side of the game.

if he said he thought he couldn't get back to the NFL without cheating. Or perhaps if he said that some schools may have a holier than thou attitude, but USC's administration and fanbase preferred a win at all costs approach.

Say everybody else does it after getting caught is neither refreshing nor honest, at least not unless you're willing to name names.

A coach who has his secondary cheat on every play because he knows the refs won't call PI on every play is saying that he didn't know anyone at USC was cheating.

Classic...

"It was just one I couldn't turn down," must be etched into every speech he makes about accepting whichever job he happens to hold at the moment.  USC, without probation, was definitely a better job than was the Seahawks, although I will admit he is the best defensive coach in the business.  Inasmuch as he had already failed in his previous NFL stint as a HC and I recall all the L.A. papers-whose writers, btw, believe any school outside the state of CA has a fanbase madeup completely of Piggly-Wiggly shoppers-declaring Pete's next job would be whenever Southern California was awared its next NFL franchise. This was just prior to the '04 Rose Bowl, and Pete pretty much confirmed "that might be the only job other than the one I know have I would be interested in."

Whoever called him on this first was SFO, or spot-on for those, who like myself, have problems with txt abbreviations at times. No coach in their right mind, and I think he qualifies after the last Super Bowl outcome, could even imagine a scenario after what had already come to light prior to his announcement could conceive of the school holding onto the same AD,thereby eliminating any choice he thinks he might have had in the matter.  He was gone, unofficialy, far prior to the announcement of his change in employment status. Sometimes I wonder why these coaches even go on record and adding emphasis to what we all know to be the truth instead of simply bypassing any chance of constant reminders of the fact that there are some that will do almost anything to pad their number of wins, even though they will always include an asterisk, whether official or not, not unlike Switzer, and about four Miami coaches, Ford at Clemson and the list goes on and on..................................

About the only quote I found even more surprising, and this one based on honesty was that of their then AD Garrett who stated, "What school in the country would not change places with us based on what we've accomplished over the last ten seasons?"  Mind you this statement was made after he admitted the truth to all the allegations.
