Gosh, I hope it's mocking.  Folks down here honestly believe that OSU is the only school with "The" at the beginning of it's name.  At the other end, I loved Brandon Graham's "Michigan".

What makes this funny isn't so much the throwaway jibe at tOSU's "THE", but the collectively indignant reaction from OSU's fanbase who are pretty much the (THE?) poster children for "can dish it out but can't take it"

I actually emailed our trademarks and logos guy a few months ago because I was horrified that people were using "The University of Georgia" on items and in text. Gross.

His response: "Actually, it is a preferential thing … if you include “The” in front of “University of Georgia” it is not wrong, but the fact is, the actual registered trademark does not include “The”.  HOWEVER, if you add “The” it does not diminish the trademark or the enforceability of the rights associated with the registration in any way whatsoever.  For all practical purposes, both iterations of the terminology are federally registered trademarks, even though there is only one actual filing."

I still don't use it though.

My brother in law went to their law school and the story goes the clerk who filled out the paper work to apply for official establishment as a state school put "The" in the title do when it came back, that's the way it was approved. So it's not JUST that they have a superiority complex, which is obviously true, but it's also that it's technically the name of the school. They've turned a mistake into a reason we all despise them even more.

The definite article in The University of Michigan refers to "University."  In the case of The Ohio State University, it refers to Ohio.  They don't want their Ohio State University to be confused with the other state universities.  I have a strong suspicion that it is the other state universities that forced The Ohio State University to adopt the definite article.

I appreciate a sense of humor and in this era of rudeness and indecency, I think a little clean fun is cool.  Don't some of these guys mention their high schools and other places as well?

Bottom line, there were a lot of former OSU players in there and not many (only one?) former UM players.  So we have some work to do.

yeah thats what sticks, there were like 4 buckeyes on carolinas O.  malcom jenkins is still a beast.  and they even had guys like kurt coleman in that game.  theres just way more buckeyes in the league than wolverines, a fact that hopefully changes over the next 10-20 years
