OT: Carlos Santana/ Stevie Winwood

Submitted by rastafari on

For those of you who have never had the chance(or even those who have) to see Carlos he will be at DTE in Clarkston on July 10th with Stevie Winwood in front. If you have the chance it is a great chance to catch the master.

Just FYI

As someone who has seen Winwood with his old band five times and seen Santana somewhere around eight times, I think this is a very nice pairing.  It would be even better if they decide to have one song on which they both play, whichever one comes out to jam with the other.

that's gonna happen ....I've seen Carlos 9 times..one of the most memorable being on Mother's Day in South Bend. The back up band was Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. Nice. I also saw him in Detroit with John McLaughlin doing Love Devotion and Surrender with a mesh of both of their bands. That was memorable also....

I saw the Santana/Jeff Beck pairing several years ago (95?) and it was one of the better concerts I've seen.

That said, I was disappointed by the Winwood/Eric Clapton pairing last year. Maybe it was just a bad night for Winwood.

I saw Santana open for Eric Clapton at the Olympia in the early 70's.  Slowhand started with "Motherless Children" and Carlos joined him for an encore.  Might have been Layla.

I also caught Steve Winwood a few years back when he opened for Tom Petty.  Honestly Stevie was better, such a musician and the classic voice.

And the Heartbreakers?  They were great, but Tom seemed stoned out of his mind.  But then what else would you expect...
