Sitting at home watching some of these events on television sometimes makes it difficult to tell how fast and dangerous some sports can be. Skicross is entertaining to watch, but there's not much margin for error for the athletes.

Yeah that sucks. Wasn't the last one a girl snowboarder in a superpipe?

close.. sarah burke was a freestyle skier, who did compete in the superpipe events.... she was arguably the best in her sport before the tragic accident.

I remember when that luger died in the 2010 olympics and the canadien skiier more recently. Prayers to the family.
to see athletes die in action like this, man the perils of sports can sometimes be ominous. Condolences to the family.
Thoughts and sympathy to the family.
Come on, the guy died, there is nothing funny about this, not cool
I just noticed this as well. Unfortunately, there is not a "maturity of 12 year old" filter on the board.
Yeah, sometimes us posters have to police this thing for the sake of sanity, good lookin' out man.
always terrible to see. thoughts go out to the family.
to do some real soul searching with this sport. I pray that something can be done, we are losing people in this sport more and more often of late. My prayers are with Nik and his family such a sad way to go.
The video is horrific. I don't know why there were nets where he crashed. Unfortunately, this is bound to happen with skiing, especially with a sport like ski cross. I've been skiing all my life and I wouldn't dare to compete like that.
