OT: Can the Wings Bring It Back to the D? (YEAH! WOO!!)/ Game 5 @ Sharks NHL Thread

Submitted by I Bleed Maize N Blue on

Same formula: throw pucks at the net early and often and go hard after them, work hard in the corners, skate, skate, skate.  Hopefully get puck luck, early goals and stay out of the box.

It's tough, though, facing elimination every game.

Franzen looked better at the start of game 4, but the announcers pointed out in the second period (IIRC) he was slowing.  Hope his ankle has improved, we really need him to get going.

A huge momentum shift! Game 6 is going to great. If the Wings can win Game 6, they will have a huge edge heading into Game 7.

is our play in the 1st period. We can not let SJ keep setting up that deep of a forecheck in our zone and let them have 2 or 3 minutes of possession. We came on strong at the end and Howard made some amazing stops to keep it 4-3. Some adjustments will have to be made for game 6 because all in all we are VERY lucky we came out victorious tonight. Momentum is on our side right now and it's SJ 's series to lose! GO WINGS!!!

As much as I love Franzen he needs to be scratched for next game. You just cant play on one leg, he is hurting us out there, he is busting his ass but you can just see his injury is killing him. Miller or Modano needs to be entered in .  Personally I would rather see Modano because he can still blaze on the skates and I think he would surprise a lot of people...I hope Babcock realizes this.

Also, props to Babcock for constantly having faith in his fourth line, I love it.  Oh and thank god Hudler is not playing, I hate to bash my teams players but damn he was constantly lost out there and getting beat.

ONE GAME AT A TIME

GO WINGS!!!!

Howard kept you in it, great game to watch! Datsyuk is truly a ridiculously talented player, a winner through and through.

Roenick should be talking about Thornton when he yaps Sharks with no Hearts, as opposed to Marleau who actually does something 60% of the time.

I enjoyed this win so thoroughly. I remember a study I read about a year ago where a psychologist showed that people enjoy a win exponentially more when they're faced with near-certain defeat first only to pull victory "from the jaws of defeat," and that was the case tonite. I couldn't help but think in the 3rd of the old Notre Dame line (and, by all means, neg me for quoting ND) of "waking up the echoes."

This series is exponentially changed. We score first in game 6 and a monumentally, ridiculous amount of pressure flies to San Jose's side, and they're even more mentally weak then the Crapitals. GO WINGS!!

We are still an elimination game away from putting San Jose in one don't celebrate just yet cuz we're going back to Detroit. Especially since we HAVE to score 3 goals a game to win. Our defense owed Howard in this one but he has still not truly stolen a game (and that overtime shot he let in Game 3 was bad).

Expecting your goalie to "steal" you a game when u allow 40 shots a night against him is moronic.  ill take Jimmy's .928% saves and his play this whole series any game.  The issue is, and has been all year, the redicuous amount of shots we've given up.

In years past we averaged around 32 shots a game while only giving up around 22 or 23.  This year I beiieve we're around 33 shots for and 32 against.  That means we're gonna have to win a lot of games 4-3 based simply on the percentages.

This series is 2 shots away from us having won already, dont forget that.

almost 2-1 and still find a way to win. I hope the old doubts are starting to creep into the heads of the Sharks.  Jimmy has played well, especially considering the firepower that San Jose has. Every time Pavelski skates down, I hold my breath. Great gut check Wings. Now take game 6, and make history in game 7.
