Can I just tell myself that I didn't click on the link and then not be annoyed by the situation?  Or does pleading ignorance not work in that instance?

If coming out of school with crippling debt in a bad economy is the wrong way, who can argue that coming out of school with $180K is the right way?

That says it all in my opinion. I like how at the beginning everything was a flat out "no!" However, as the season has progressed it has turned into many variations of "no comment"

I just find it unreal that they are saying we have proof that his dad asked for money from MSU, but we don't have proof Cam knew about it, so he's not in trouble.  What a horrible, horrible precedent that sets for future high school athletes.  So parents just have to leave their kids out of the process entirely, shop them around, and the kid never gets in trouble?  Good idea NCAA

Sad, but really seems like this is the case.  NCAA gets to have its cake and eat it, too.  Allow Cam to keep playing and enjoy all of the publicity and attention he produces, but then alter the rules to ensure that, in the future, parents asking for money will make players ineligible, whether or not the player knows about it.

the result in the USC situation.  I don't think there was any finding that Reggie took cash or knew what his family was up to.  Now I am sure he did, just as I think that Newton knew what was going on.  How they will apply the "Newton Rule" in the future will be interesting to watch.

It goes far beyond straining credulity to believe cam newton knew nothing. It is absolutely a mockery of common sense to purport that this kid didn't get money from Auburn and knew damn well he was.

Now you know why DB, in an interview published in Detroit News, says following:

Question: We had speakers suggesting we shred the NCAA rulebook. Do you agree?

Brandon: Maybe. I would just suggest that massive reform is needed. Before they add rules, they should make sure the stuff they already have is being universally enforced and communicated.

I would like to see a transcript from speakers who want to shred the rulebook.  I would probably agree with about 90 percent of it.  In the communication age, it is pretty naive of the NCAA to pretend that their spectacles are "amateur sports," and more naive for anyone to believe them.

It's time for shamateurism to disappear and time for the kids to get whatever share of the "pie" they can negotiate from whoever will pay them.

I think what really sucks is when they realize they made a mistake and take all of auburns wins away and the NC if they win.  All of those players get hosed and Cam just rides around in an escalade with his pops.  What is Reggie Bush thinking right now?

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Auburn gets hit hard in the next year or two. I'm thinking this is all about money. Instead of an Oregon/TCU matchup that would draw poor ratings they are getting their Oregon/Auburn matchup. Two high scoring offenses and controversy. What game would get better ratings? I think that once the NCAA cashes their check, they will "suddenly" realize that Cam did something wrong. This is speculation on my part, but there is a reason why they haven't closed the case yet.

1. And this is my opinion, of course, but I don't believe an Oregon/TCU matchup would draw terrible ratings. Think of all of the college football fans everywhere who want to actually see if a mid-major really belongs on the MNC stage. Even the fans right now who don't believe that they do would tune in for the simple exercise of realising they are right, or that they were wrong.

2. I'm not sure how much money the NCAA makes off the bowl games themselves. I'm thinking little to none. But even if you are right about that, the NCAA would be shown to have the worst management in all of sports by allowing something to go on, against the very rules they stand behind, simply to make a buck or two, knowing that in a year or so the truth is going to out itself. The image of the NCAA then would be one of a gold-digging entity that doesn't really care about the rules it supposedly upholds.

My own take is that something, somewhere happened to cause Newton to choose Auburn, otherwise the father would have been shoving him to MissSt., tied up and gagged if need be. But even with that, nothing anywhere has been outed between Newton and Auburn so everyone stays the course as if it didn't. Vilifying an innocent and denying what he earned honestly is much worse than another Reggie Bush happening.

How is Cam eligible and Enas Kanter ineligible?

Similar situations, but his family accepted money for educational purposes overseas.

Seems like a double standard to me.

I thought that Enes was ineligible because he played professionally in Europe in some league and was paid for it. So its not really a double standard there. Nobody cares about Kanter as much because 1) college football and it's recruiting trumps college bball and 2) Kanter was one of Calipari's recruits (who he stole from some other school) and no one feels bad for Cal because he's a douche.

The worst part is that most logical Auburn fans kind of expect something similar to the USC sanctions to occur here, so they are trying to enjoy the ride while knowing it will likely be treated historically with an asterisk.

Cam Newton refers to himself in the first person. What a DOUCHEBAG. Living in SEC country, the funniest part about all of this is the Auburn fans. They claim he is very humble LOL. Gah I hope he falls hard and Auburn loses the National Championship.

My thoughts:

Cam got caught cheating in school multiple times. If he was anything other than a football star he would have gone in front of the honor panel and been suspended or expelled. He gets the highest honor in college sports, instead. Really?

He stole from a fellow student, and was arrest, charged, pled for a diverson program, and finished the punishment. Now he gets the highest honor in college sports. Really?

His father shopped him around for cash, and he gets to play and gets the highest honor in college sports. Really?
