OT - Calvin/Hope Rivaly Game Tonight

Submitted by BlockM on
If you're not from the West Michigan area, this might not mean anything to you, but Calvin and Hope play in their 174th game against each other tonight. A few interesting facts about the rivalry: - Hope leads the series 88-85. - Over the course of the 173 games, only 101 points separate the teams. - That's an average delta of just over .5 points/game. More fun facts available at http://www.calvinhope.com/men/history.htm Anyway, just thought that might be interesting to some. Go Knights!

I remember a couple of years ago, ESPN the mag had an article on rivalries you might not now, and the Hope vs. Calvin rivalry was near the top of the list. Nice to see West Michigan get a bit of recognition.

Both of my parents went to Hope, and this rivalry (The Holy War: Dutch Reform vs. Calvinist) is fantastic. The schools can't even agree on when the first game was played. I went to Albion and can't stand either school.

Sad, I read the title as 'Calvin/Hobbes Rivalry Game Tonight' and I thought THIS IS AWESOME. Reality isn't as fun as I would like it to be.

I lived in Holland for about 18 years before moving to A2 and my daughter is a Sophomore at Hope. She is part of the "Dew Crew" (think Maize Rage) student section that is sponsored by Mountain Dew. They take this rivalry very seriously and both schools traditionally lead the nation in attendance for D3. They have thousands at each game rather than the "family and friends" at most D3 schools. Hope built a new arena a few years ago (with Amway money) and it is pretty nice. They are true student athletes and fun to watch. Go Hope!

Yes I am in california now. I am going to Fuller Theological Seminary now. I am from Belding, MI originally and I played football at Hope for 2 years before having surgery on my shoulder and deciding its not worth it any more haha.

My entire side of my mom's family went to Calvin and my sister currently goes there. I remember that somebody was rating the greatest college basketball rivalries and Hope-Calvin was rated like third or something after Duke-NC and I don't know who else. Go Calvin!

I too am surprised by the presence of Hope/Calvin/WMers. I never went to a game or got too into the rivalry during my 4 years at Hope, but sure enjoyed the time there. Great college. I just spent most of my rooting on UofM! Proud to have degrees from both schools!
