OT - Calvin College player has walk off steal of home
Calvin College basebal team played Albion College last weekend, and won their game on a walk off steal of home. This has been getting some national pub on MLB Fancave, Barstool Sports, Bleacher report, and is rumored to be on Olbermann tonight on ESPN2. As an alum of Calvin College this is some pretty cool publicity for the school, and the whole west side of the state in general.

OK. Here's the answer:
The "Tommies" is the former nickname of Aquinas College in GR.
I don't remember the year, but it had to be late 70's/early 80's that Aquinas changed to the "Saints" after black athletes that played on some of their few athletic teams reportedly were being called "Uncle Toms".
That being the case, I have no problem with the name change. Just didn't care for 'Saints', too "Holy Roller-ish" for me.
I spent my first year in college there back in '74-75 on scholarship. Nice school, just not what I was looking for, though. Besides, living at home in GR and commuting, while cheap, wasn't what I wanted as a student at that point in my life. Had to get out of the "nest"...
Calvin College was somewhat a "rival" back then. Campuses were probably less than 5 miles apart.
Not being Dutch (or Reformed), I was one of the few non "Van"-shmees at our school. Now that I think about it, this may be why to this day it is so hard for me to remember people's last names.
You lose.
Hearing this exciting news of my alma mater (class of 2011) makes me want to run around singing the Calvin song
Calvin, Calvin, sing we all to thee
/s
Calvin needs a fight song
Cool to see so many MIAA fans/grads on the board. Alma grad here, and I think we can all agree that we love to hate Hope and Albion.
Go Scots!
Class of '13 here. What a great play, I know the guys are soaking this play up right now. Go Knights!
Hope 5 Calvin 4
Hope 3 Calvin 2
Hope 3 Calvin 1
Hope 7 Calvin 4
Went to Kalamazoo College and played tennis.
Isn't the streak like 75 plus years or so?
Too bad that play wasn't against Hope.

Were you one of the people that got booted out of an off-campus house senior year for having more than 4 people living in them? Favorite party house? 3 mile?
I did sorta get booted from a house, but it was on Colton... I think that description would fit quite a few people. Saved some money by "living" at home for the rest of the year.
