OT: Calling All Cards Fans

Submitted by UM Indy on

Not that it's over, but I think that three game sweep you put on my Reds a week and a half ago was the best thing that's happened all year.  Phillips talked smack, they then got embarrassed in three straight and the team had to decide where it wanted to go from there.  Well, the answer has been emphatic.  They haven't lost since, while the Cardinals I believe have only won twice since.  The lead is 4 1/2 games and I'm fired up.  Starting pitching is deep enough to play with anyone in baseball and the hitting speaks for itself.

The Reds haven't been to the playoffs since 1995 so it's been a long dry spell.  I'm looking forward to a fall filled with Michigan football and relevant Cincinnati Reds baseball.

I'll admit that I think the Cards are done.   I watched most of their games through July and they've been horribly inconsistent.  I've actually given up on watching them for now since they can't beat anyone except the Reds.  Just as well since it's time to start watching football.  Good luck in the playoffs.

As a life long Cards fan, I can say that I have been extremely surprised and disappointed by what has gone down over the past couple weeks.

We sweep the Reds on the road and then can't win a series at home against the Cubs or Brewers? Ridiculous.

We have just been terribly inconsistent this year, and there is no excuse for it.

To the Reds, I give you all the credit in the world. Every time I thought you guys would fold this year you have just kept winning. And I'd much rather you guys win the division than the Cubs, Astros, or Brew Crew.

That being said, I don't really see the need to call us Cards fans out. For the first time in over a decade, you are having a great season. So just enjoy it and move on.

You are not our rivals, sorry to say. Sure we have had some heated matchups this season. But that is bound to happen with two teams battling for the division. Sorry to say but we are and have been the class of the division and possibly the national league throughout the history of the MLB.

Am I disappointed with how this season seems to be closing out? Of course. But remember you still have 3 games to play in the StL. Another sweep would put us back within striking distance. And don't forget that you could end up seeing us in the playoffs if we somehow made the wildcard.

Not saying its going to happen, but you should learn from Phillips and just keep your mouth shut IMHO.

Keep my mouth shut man.  Bursting with excitement.  Since you've owned the National League since baseball was invented, you think it's your God given right to reach the playoffs every year.  Wait fifteen years between playoff appearances and see how you act.

Also, as you can see from the comment below, some people seem to like the shout out to the Reds and the call out of the Cardinals so it all depends on your perspective.

I understand your excitement and all.

But I just don't know why you need to take your team's success and turn it into calling out an opposing team's fans. And to do it on a MICHGAN blog makes even less sense IMO.

You sound like a Sparty fan talking trash after beating us for the first time in nearly a decade.

And what's more is that you haven't actually ya know WON ANYTHING YET!

Congrats to you guys though. You have the better team this season. You guys might actually have a chance to make a run in the playoffs if you can manage to score runs off some decent pitching.

This is the last comment I'll make in this thread because as big of a Cards fan as I am, I'm a much bigger Michigan fan and would rather focus on that.

All I'm saying is that over the years I have tried to avoid situations where I may have to put my foot in my mouth. Apparently you have not learned that lesson.

And if the Cards somehow manage to finish on top or take you guys out in the playoffs (and thats a big IF), I hope to see you back on here with a new thread calling us out again. I certainly won't be making one calling you out. For the Cards it would just be a semi-successful season, nothing more. We play for World Championships in Saint Louis.

All that being said, GO BLUE! At least we can agree on that!

Larussa  was crying again last night, home plate umpire has it our for his Cardinals according to the man that thinks he created the game of baseball.

Good to see another Reds fan on the board...I'm hesitant to admit my passion for pro sport teams in Ohio on this board.  Ohio's proximity to West Virginia and WV's lack of sports teams made me follow Ohio professional sports.  Go Reds...their success breathes life into my miserable life as a sports fan.

And this season is not over.  It's been nice to see the Reds play well since the Cards series, but the end of the bullpen is a concern, also their play against good teams worries me.  By my count they are 15 and 25 against the Cardinals, Phillies, Braves, Giants and Dodgers.  October baseball won't be so fun to watch with those kind of results.

Coco is real shaky.  The only team that is absolutely frightening is the Phillies.  Guess we'll see more of the Giants and Padres coming up so we can see how we stack up.  The Dodgers are done. We could see the Cards in the playoffs and their first three starters are nasty, then a big drop off.  I'm definitely not counting chickens yet.
