highest paid in all of college sports.  It's getting ludicrous how much these guys make.  Supply and demand I know, but really?  8 million in his final year?  Wonder if there will be any wording about ncaa violations since he has a nack for running right befor the NCAA comes calling.

I'm sorry, but is he really worth that? He has three final fours with one national championship, while signing by far the most talent of any coach in the recruiting rankings era. He has like 2 or 3 other elite eights. Besides the national championship, doesn't Bo Ryan have a pretty comparable big time resume?

Calipari has 8 (non vacated) elite 8's, four which went to final fours 1 runner-up and 1 championship. Bo Ryan has 3 elite eights, two final fours and 1 runner up. So yeah, you have a point. Ryan also had four DIII championships. But still, the amount to talent Calipari has compared to everyone else makes me think he boarder line underachievers. Does Calipari deserve more than Krzyzewski? Hell no.

He doesn't but basketball success is far more important to the image of the university at Kentucky than at Duke. They've had a taste of recruiting paradise and they don't want anything less. Cal is a lot younger than K so his leaving for the NBA is a much greater possibility.

He keeps UK relevant and will continue to do so. Whether he does it 100% clean is debatable but he is absolutely worth $8 mil to keep the UK basketball machine humming. I, along with most posters here, said throw $10 mil at Harbaugh because it's worth it if it brings M back to winning tradition.

They have to do it. Huge NBA jobs opening up this offseason. New Orleans already offers the chance to coach Anthony Davis (former Calipari player), Chicago will likely be in play, and Cleveland could open up as well, and Calipari has always been rumored to be close with Lebron. Many people believe that had Lebron announced he was going to Cleveland before they hired Blatt, Calipari would already be the coach there.

How much does Coach K make? I was always under the impression that his total package was near $10M, tho that could include his salary as head coach of the men's Olympic team as well.

I'm 99.999% sure coaches aren't paid anything more than a stipend and comps for the Olympics (I don't know if they get the same medal bonus as athletes but that tops out at $25,000), and I know 100% the USOC isn't paying any coach enough to make a significant dent in a ten million dollar salary.

At some point doesn't the University have to consider how far it is willing to go to remain competitive in this environment? I think we have two great coaches in Harbaugh and Beilein, but as the years go on, Michigan will be challenged in its ability to do things the right way while also remaining competitive. I think we are currently very near the edge of the envelope.

Calipari cheats is the most worn out narrative there is. It's college basketball. We commend Bo Ryan and John Beilein for running programs as clean as you can in college basketball, but the rest of the leauge does the same stuff Cal does. That's the nature of the sport.

You can't recruit AAU players without skirting the rules. The whole point of the bagman article was that it's all done behind the coaches back and you can't even get a top prospect to visit without paying up.

Some are just too nieve to accept it.
