"Distractions" in this case probably means former friends who are into not good things. He's trying to elevate himself, and they keep bringing him down.

after reading the article ...

he was a local kid who finished football elsewhere, pry got back and had old friends doing not so productive things

still it seems awfully early to transfer

Fucking Florida??? I guess the rich get richer, I seriously loathe Urban Meyer, if he ever came to my house to recruit my kid I would hit him with a pot of boiling water

If he ever came to my house to recruit my kid I'd probably just be happy my kid was, most likely, a stud athlete. Hurrah for my kid going to a big-time D1 program that isnt OSU! Hopefully he'll go on to make millions in the NFL and buy his dad some sweet mansion. I hear there's one in Florida that just sold for a reasonable $49.5 mil.

Yes, the rich get richer.  Right now, Texas, Florida, USC, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Ohio State are dominating recruiting and are showing no signs of letting up.  Michigan is going to have a very, very difficult challenge to best these programs in recruiting, especially with the last 2 years records.  We don't necessarily need to be top 5 every year, but we must be consistently top 10 starting next year if we want to keep pace with these power 6 programs.

I don't blame Meyer for trying to get the best kids available - UM certainly wouldn't be against nabbing another top-rated kid at any position on the field, irrespective of the depth chart.  I think the issue people have with Florida and Meyer is that he is somewhat sanctimonious in his recruiting, preaching a family atmosphere and the "Tebow halo" while also being a rather blatant douche.

I'm sure all the hot coeds in Gainesville will provide the quiet learning environment that he was lacking at Berkeley. Does anyone actually believe "distractions" were his reason for leaving? Please, if distractions were a problem he'd transfer to BYU or Utah.

Martin is from the Bay Area originally and he spent his last year (years? not sure how many) of high school in another state because of these same issues.  It's not clear what they are but the assumption is that there are certain people in town that have in some way or another caused fairly serious troubles for him.  They are not talking about distractions over hot coeds.

So while the decision is understandable, this is still a huge disappointment for Cal.  Besides being one of their premier recruits of recent years, he also had been an energetic recruiter much like Ricardo Miller for UM.

Could Urban Meyer make it any more obvious that he's paying these players.  There is no way to get this many players at the same position, I don't care how good your chances are at a national title.  What is he selling them on?  "Hey Chris, you're currently 5th on the depth chart, and there's a chance you'll play special teams for 4 years."..........there's also a chance that I'm just insane with jealousy.......but that remains to be seen.

So this is about recruiting and I cannot post a thread. Because I just joined? I guess. Anyways, I was checking out the ESPN recruiting page and Bill Kurelic has a story titled "Polamalu picks up three more offers; Thomas talking to Michigan." So I read into that and I'm not an insider so I can't read the whole story. Does anyone know what Thomas this is referring to? I don't even want to throw out who I hope it is but... My fingers are crossed.

Well still good. I actually went on rivals and searched "Thomas".  The only two I saw that we would most likely pursue where Lawrence and Deanthony. I totally dismissed Deanthony for a kid I thought would have no interest in us. Pleasent surprise.
