OT: Butch Davis is awesome
So, we all know how awesome Butch Davis was at Miami, pumping out 1st rounder after 1st rounder.
Well, he's doing it again at UNC.
Based on ESPN, here are some draft projections:
TOP-150
Robert Quinn - 4stars (5.8)
Deunta Williams - 4stars (5.8)
Bruce Carter - 3 stars (5.6)
Marvin Austin - 5stars (6.1)
Greg Little - 4stars (5.9)
Quan Sturdivant - 3stars (5.5)
Kenric Burney - 3stars (5.3)
3RD DAY OF DRAFT
Charles Brown - 2stars (5.4)
Ryan Houston - 3 stars (5.7)
Zach Pianalto - 3stars (5.6)
ALREADY DRAFTED
Brandon Tate - 2stars (5.3) - drafted 3rd round
Hakeem Nicks - 4stars (5.8) - drafted 1st round
The remarkable thing is that he's done it for the most part with lightly regarded HS prospects. If I remember correctly, it was a similar situation at Miami. Is there any other coach that seems to spot and develop talent better than Butch Davis?

Who cares
-Sorry, but if he's not recruiting for us than he's recruiting against us.

Am I the only one who isn't sold on him as a game day coach? I mean all that talent and a couple of 8-5 seasons in the ACC.

He learned from JJ who worked his magic in a couple of places. BTW, Kris Frost, please be off the board today.

you mean off the Board in a good way right?

I am confused on the Kris Frost reference. What am I missing here? I thought it was between UM and Auburn, so how do Butch Davis and UNC come into play here. Also, what does today have to do with it? I also didn't think he was making a decision until mid season.

Sorry for the confusion, meant hopefully he doesnt see this if he checks the blog and influences him on NC/Michigan

Lemme give you an idea of the kind of faith the ACC media rightly has in Butch Davis: The preseason all-ACC defense has no less than five of eleven spots filled with Tar Heels. The same people who did that also voted UNC fourth in the division. Division, not conference. This was before there were real questions about his players' eligibility.
Out of 24 starters including the punter and the kicker, UNC returns 20 of them. And still: fourth in the division. Never put it past Butch Davis to screw up a sure thing. His offensive game plan is like Wisconsin's, only boringer. When it comes to doing more with less, he makes Ron Zook look like Paul Johnson if Paul Johnson had beaten Alabama 70-0 on the way to a fourth straight national title for Navy. Davis can recruit (or at least, his D-line coach Black Santa and his agent buddies can) but he can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

Butch Davis also is facing NCAA sanctions for recruiting violations...same thing happened when he was at Miami. Not to mention he lost at least one DL already because the kid was taking money, and dumb enough to flaunt it. No way in hell Davis didn't know what was going on, and it's possible/probably that he orchestrated the fraud.
Therefore, Butch Davis is not awesome, UNC will disappear once their sanctions hit.

He's the John Calipari of college football - only this time the program's actually getting nailed while he's there.
