OT- Breakfast in Ypsilanti

Submitted by Jebus on
Any good recommendations for a breakfast place in Ypsilanti? I'm going to the Michigan Beer Fest on Saturday, and want to carb-load before the drinking begins in earnest. Prefer closer to Frog Island Park, if possible.

I second this.  Went to the Bomber for the first time about a month ago and was amazed at how good it was.  I ordered some biscuits and gravy dish that was a perfect hangover supplement.  I live on Main St in A2 and eat at the local (Broken Egg, Aut Bar, Afternoon Delight, Cafe Felix etc.) breakfast places regularly but secretly yearn for the Bomber.  I've revealed too much.  Go to the Bomber.

The Bomber will serve you unbelievably large portions for between 6 and 8 dollars. Recommended.

Beezy's, across from the Vu, will serve you reasonably-sized meals. B, the chef, is perhaps the most talented young restauranteur/euse in town; the place is a 5* experience with great coffee, fantastic service, and to-die-for brunch. HIGHLY recommended.

I have only had the corned beef hash, the bomber omelette or the nature lover's pancakes (pancakes filled with blueberries, raspberries and pecans) but the next time I am there, I may have to try french toast with Capt Crunch...........................

(I say ONLY because I used to live and work in Ypsi and would go to the Bomber about once a month for 8 years or so.............)

in Depot Town has a breakfast buffet on weekends that is pretty awesome for $8.50 (coffee included, with a different special coffee each week).  It's a cool local business and I think it's the closest to Frog Island of all the recommendations.  That would be my rec.

Luwak definitely deserves some love.  Good coffee, and ice cream for the kids.  Not for breakfast though.  Even on a Saturday.  Although if you're bringing your 8 year old to Brewfest, there may be more problems that need to be dealt with...

Not sure if its still open but Abe's was a must whenever I visited my brother in Ypsi. Always capped off a night of drinking with a 2am visit there, the Sunrise Special was amazing and a ton of food for the price...

you should absolutely go to Abe's.  one of the best hole in the wall places around for breakfast.  i like it more than the fleetwood diner.  Bill Clinton liked it enough to order a chicken gyro.

with a side of stab wound, Abe's is the place for you.

A little father from Depot Town is the Big Sky diner on ecorse (5-7 minute drive)  I haven't been there in a few years, but they used to have huge portions for super cheap.

Not close, but we enjoy the Harvest Moon Cafe, near where Michigan Ave meets US-23.

I am having a hell of a time finding a babysitter, because we also wish to attend this.  Between Art Fair and of-age babysitters who have their own plans to go drink beer, we've come up dry.  Folks, go out and have your fun before the offspring start arriving!  Parenthood changes many things, including one's ability to go drink on a whim.
