OT: Braylon Arrested for DWI

Submitted by Dreisbach1817 on

Apparently he was pulled over in NYC at around 5:30 AM with a b/a level double the legal limit.  You have to imagine that he will be suspended for at least a month.  Consider what happened in the Donte Stallworth situation and the suspension might be longer.

I'll never forget that MSU game in 04 and all the great performances he gave us during his tenure.  But certainly Braylon has not brought much maturity to the NFL.  From his fight with Lebron in Cleveland and his antics with Browns management, up to this past Sunday where, during perhaps his best game as a Jet, he gets called for a stupid unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, Braylon has clearly struggled to act like a professional in the NFL.  It's a shame too because he was, and remains, such a great talent.   I think it's tough to judge NFL players sometimes because the media spotlight can be excessive and unfair, but clearly this was a huge mistake.  You make millions, hire a driver if you want to have a night out.

Here's to hoping he's able to straighten things out and salvage what can still be a very good NFL career.  But this is a news story to follow throughout the days/weeks to come.

EDIT:

Here's a link from the NY Post:

I can't believe the night he was with Donte, one of his best friends now, he watched him drink, get behind the wheel and kill someone.  Yet Braylon still decides to do this??  Grow up man.  We've all done stupid things, but NFL teams are aware of this now, they hire car services just for situations like this.  Pick up a phone, hire yourself a driver for Christ's sake.

“I’m glad you gave me a Go Blue question because Rich Rod gave the No. 1 jersey to an incoming freshman DB and the No. 1 jersey has never been worn by anybody outside of a wide receiver,” Edwards said. “It dates back to Anthony Carter, (Greg) McMurtry, Tyrone Butterfield, Derrick Alexander, David Terrell, and yours truly. So I’m going to have a talk with him about that the next time I see him.”

When is that call coming, Edwards was asked?

“He’s getting that call soon -- very soon. Exactly, we have a jersey scholarship fund for this whole deal. What is he thinking?”

No, Braylon.  The question is: What are YOU thinking?

I remember two distinct things about Braylon on campus:

1. When he was with the track team, he always parked his SUV on the sidewalk just outside the indoor track. This to me was an "athlete of privilege" thing that he was allowed to get away with just like other high profile athletes.

2. He took his time to sign a small stack of programs for me that I gave out to inner-city high school kids. It was an amazing gesture.

I'm conflicted about him.

Edwards will likely NOT face a suspension from NFL, unless Jets hit him with one.

His DWI does not fall under personal conduct policy, rather the substance abuse policy, according to Collective Bargaining Agreement.

If this is, indeed, his first violation of the substance abuse policy, he would be fined half-a-game check to a max of $50,000. Braylon also would be subject to evaluation, counseling and random testing, if league administrators determine that action, in addition to the fine (Per Chris Mortensen's Twitter).

Terrible, stupid decision, but according to this he probably won't be suspended. As a Michigan fan and Jets fan, I hope this is the wake up call dude needed to get his act together and finally grow up.

I said this a couple of days ago during the Jets game when he taunted, but it is really hard to root for Braylon in the pros.  Sure, he was great while at UM, he was apparently such an annoyance in Cleveland that they send him packing to the Jets, and he has been head case while in NY.  He's a talented player and could very well be a good person, but this behavior is unacceptable and has been part of a pattern of not "being on the same page" since his days at UM.  I'll always fondly remember his time at UM, but man I can't stand him right now.

Wow, Braylon has grown into a total douche. I was on the fence with him as a pro after seeing him act like a petulent child against the Patriots (all the bush league taunting). But now he's a drunk driver? I'm done with him.

Yeah, Braylon, the beautiful thing about NYC is that you can get as drunk as you want and still take the subway home for, what, two dollars? You can even pee down there!

And don't give me this "rich people shouldn't ride the subway" bullshit. You have the homeless man beard for a reason.

Jets have both Braylon and Santonio Holmes going to be free agents this off season and they are obviously only signing one.  Braylon had a 4 game head start to become Sanchez's guy but after today, I thnk Braylon will be looking for a new home this offseason

He was my favorite Wolverine player ever. I have a #1 jersey. He has been SO disappointing with his actions in the NFL.

I look at guys like Woodson, Woodley, Griese, Brady, Howard, former/current players that reprsent our team and university in a fine manner. Why couldn't he resemble Avants attitude in the NFL.

Out of the trio Wrs that he played with, I never thought Avant and Breaston would amount to more and they have in a team sense, without question.
