So the Sparty President blames Chippewas and others for riot chaos, released a statement to the media pinning all the blame on so called "Spartans for a day" (outsiders). Because Michigan State students don't mug people or go to jail or anything. Thanks to the hard work that has been happening on both sides of Grand River Avenue, we believe that the "town-gown" relationship that exists between city and university has never been stronger.In particular, we've been very proud of how Spartans this year have celebrated their successes with respect, as well as with enthusiasm.However, there are those we call "Spartans for a Day" who simply do not understand or respect how true Spartans celebrate. Many of them come to our community during the Final Four and get identified -- misidentified -- as part of this community. And their behaviors sometimes put at risk our hard-earned reputation.We salute the many MSU students -- authentic Spartans for a lifetime -- who have voluntarily used social media and other means to tell their friends and classmates how to have safe and responsible celebrations, as well as warn of the consequences if irresponsible behavior occurs.It's important to remember as we enter this Final Four weekend that true Spartans celebrate with class. So let's be generous hosts and friends, but take care to defend a reputation that has been generations in the making."
