OT: Brady's older brother Jon receives praise as Chicago Bears secondary coach

Brady Hoke's older brother Jon has been position coach in the secondary for the Chicago Bears. His corps is responsible for 11 of the Bear's NFL leading 13 interceptions. There is a long article highlighting Jon Hoke in the Chicago Tribune. LINK:  http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-spt-1012-bears-chicago--20121012,0,6380945.story

A few snippets from the article:

The Bears don't have a more animated position coach on staff. Hoke is firm and firmer when with players on the field in training camp. . . . It's not always an approach that works in the NFL.

"That is the way I was raised in coaching," said Hoke. . . "I had a guy tell me one time, and I do believe it: 'Encourage, correct, encourage.' ... When they come off and I am in their ear, sometimes it's correction and sometimes it's encouragement. It's always in that vein, though.

"Sometimes it's tough love. And people don't like to hear it. It's just human nature. We don't want to hear those things. But we have a wonderful group of players to coach, and we're extremely pleased with what they are doing so far."

And again,

"He does it because he cares about us and he treats everyone the same. I don't get any preferential treatment over a practice squad guy. He's hard on everybody. He's consistent all the way around."

This is only tangentially related to Brady Hoke, but you can certainly see some similarities in their coaching style.

Any chance he wants to be

Any chance he wants to be closer to Brady and work with the Lions?

Funny

I feel sorry for Lion's fans. The Bears certainly haven't set the world on fire, but at least they've made it to the Super Bowl, and are trying to get back.

The Lions organization as a

The Lions organization as a whole is funny. I have lost some respect for Schwartz, Mayhew hasn't done that great of a job with later round picks. Our defense is attrocious, Suh is overrated, Young, Fairely, Leshoure are trouble makers. Delmas is overrated and can't stay healthy. Stafford is inconcsistent as all hell. Thank GOD for Michigan football is all I have to say...and Barry Sanders of course.

I found out through Wikipedia

I found out through Wikipedia that Jon Hoke's son Kyle is a grad assistant at WMU. They're like a nicer version of the Harbaughs.

Cool Guy

Had a chance to work on a team with him.  Logical guy, very dry sense of humor, and I mean that in a good way.  Extremely funny.

He would probably be a good recruiter.  I see him as a good teacher, as he has the ability to break things down in a very clear, simple manner, even the slowest of learners can catch.

He might come off a bit abrasive to a thin-skinned player.

If RR had hired Jon (and assuming the W/L stayed the same like you suggested) then Jon would have been fired by RR, probably about the same time RR fired Schafer.  If RR gets fired without firing Jon Hoke, then Brady would easily for his own brother because it almost certainly meant he did a terrible job.

Rich Rod apparently considered hiring Jon Hoke as DC

Holy crap. My first thought was If he'd brought Hoke in, RR might still be here in A2.

But my second thought is that it would have worked only if RR told his WVU homeboys to shut the hell up and do what Hoke told them to do with no backbiting or bitching. Not sure that was going to happen. Probably was better for Hoke that it didn't happen.

Nice Article

Sounds a lot like he has a lot of the same coaching dna as his brother.

Look what he's working with

Charles Tillman is 31 years old. Tim Jennings was an average player before he was released by the Colts. Conte wasn't supposed to be athletic enough to play FS in the Cover-2, and Maor Wright couldn't cover to save his life. Jon Hoke has done a fantastic job.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

BEARS.

As a Bears fan, our defense has really been different this year, in a great way. Our 2 best players (Urlacher, and Peppers, who are both old) are playing through injuries and aren't having their usual impact. Yet somehow we lead the league in takeaways (don't call them turnovers) and have had 4 pick-sixes the last 2 games. If Urlacher and Peppers can get heathly during the bye week, us (very, very) rational chicago fans will have to start with the '85 comparisons all around.

Jon Hoke has done a great job with the secondary.

Not sure if you're serious, but

http://www.arizonawildcats.com/trads/bear-down.html

Since you still can't figure out how to reply to specific posts, I'll explain it to you like you're Herm.

Brown Bear says he's glad there's a Hoke coaching both of his teams.  He doesn't say which teams those are.  He says Go Blue and Bear Down.

Bear Down can refer to multiple teams.  Yes, many of us know Brown Bear is a Chicago Bears fan and this thread is about the Bears.  However, it was also a setup for a RichRod/Arizona joke because Bear Down is also the Arizona "Battle Cry"

It was a joke Don.
