OT: Boz and sweater vest part of 19 member College Football HOF class
I can understand Boz being inducted. Despite being selfish at OU to a certain degree, I think time has proven his claims against the ncaa as valid.
Now sweatervest on the other hand, I have no idea how he is deserving. The mans cover ups were ethically suspect at best borderline criminal at worst. He's sacrificed players futures to save himself (Clarett and rb that transferred to MD). Beyond his lack of fashion sense and the fact that he coached at ohio, I have absolutely no respect for him. He is a politician with a whistle.
End rant.

In the event anyone here has not seen it (I suspect most of you have), the "30 For 30" which revolves around the career of Brian Bosworth is actually a rather fascinating one, in my opinion. It talks a lot about his relationship with Barry Switzer, the development of "The Boz" as a persona, and lessons he has learned looking back at all of it. Worth the time if you've not seen it.

That was a great documentary. Really changed my opinion of him, I was happy I watched it.

His show-cause is over next year and he's 62. I wouldn't bet against him coaching again. Maybe a middle-tier Power 5 program that wants to move up in the world?

Tressel is the president at Youngstown State these days, I'd bet he's more likely to get into politics than coach again.

I don't know. The history of college football is filled with "cheaters" in the sense that players have been paid for service. Since I tend to think players should be paid for service I have a hard time contempting the guys who got caught doing it.
In my opinion steriods are a bigger issue since they have a possible negative health impact but the fact that steroids were/are so loosely inforced makes it kind of hard to condemn the guys who actually got caught.
A case could be made either way...

Tressel bothers be because he wrapped himself in this cloak of righteousness and negatively impacted the lives of those "young people" under his care, while profiting off of their talents.
He pretty much embodies the ncaa. I love college athletics, but despise the ncaa.

Where are you coming up with this notion that Tress "sacrificed" certain players for his own good and that he negatively impacted the lives of the "young people" under his care?

Sammy Maladono and Maurice Clarett are two quick examples

Tressel ruined a kid's life because he came into a program and wanted to play the guys he recruited and not play a kid who called himself a "pain in the ass" and told people that he was not used to not getting his way? And last time I checked, Clarett admitted to bringing his troubles upon himself and he and Tress have quite a good relationship. Not sure why he would view Tress as a friend if Tress ruined his life...

By the way,Troy Smith's *falling on the sword*...look past that?

I didn't say that he had no wrongdoings. I just don't understand the argument that he ruined kids lives. And how did Troy Smith fall on the sword? He committed an NCAA infraction, got suspended, came back and won the Heisman? If he was so awful to his players, where are all of the complaints? Would his former players be carrying him off the field? The man had flaws but has been a positive influence for many men.

Why is it acceptable that Bosworth, a guy ran out of college football for steriod use, is inducted but it's an outrage for Tressel? A cheater is a cheater.

Pete Rose is probably thinking he should have played football

This leads to the obvious conclusion that there is a single criterion required for CFHOF: on-field results. Boz was a great college player, but also a poster boy for PEDs before that acronym even existed. The Vest was hugely successful at both YSU and OSU, yet dragged both programs through the mud--and if the NCAA had subpoena power, OSU would still be suffering from the harshest sanctions since SMU thanks to His Vestness. Given the parody of itself that the NCAA has become, this is not the least bit surprising.

I suggest you stop obsessing about Tressel. He's long gone and is never coming back. It was brutal losing nine times to that cheating bastard, but move on.

However, the DIRT on Tressel's vest says differently.
Wonder if Fish could comeback like vest, hoisted up on former players shoulders, paraded around Crisler as a *hero*?!

I never understood the hatred for Lloyd Carr that a lot of you have for him. Yes, he had a poor record vs. the sweater vest creep....however it has been proven that the creep was cheating and paying his players, turning his back on major NCAA violations etc. Carr dominated everyone else in the BT.
January 9th, 2015 at 8:45 PM ^
Lloyd didn't lose to Tressel because some of his players took some cash and tattoos. They lost because Tressel's teams were more prepared nearly every time the two teams played each other.
